Nvm just saw your efc. That’s crazy sorry about that
hey guys so im in finals in spring semester and i got accepted into USC with the requirement of official transcript, completion of coursework and avoidance of academic/behaviorial misconduct. I have a downgrade trend (Bs and As) in spring grades and would my spring grades affect my acceptance??
Does your conditional acceptance have a specific requirement? (GPA)
Ah Okay! I figured! What is your line of work in CL?
I’m just finishing up grad school at UW. A lot of the decent positions in CL usually ask for a graduate degree or higher. Stanford and UW are pretty much the top two programs for my field, so I was very fortunate that my USC degree helped out. A fellow USC alumna joined the program last year, so it’s a pretty popular pick for us USC CL folk apparently. Linguistics overall is a small major at USC (about 70 students back in my day) and out of those, about 6 or 7 were CL majors.
now its been over 3 weeks since they got my sgr still no decision
@zettasyntax It looks like I’ll be commuting to USC instead of living on campus! Since you were a previous commuter, do you have any tips? I live 30 miles away from USC. I assume that I can just go the library or sneak a nap in there right? Also, how much are the parking passes? I’m a Marshall student.
Thank you
any spring admits get their financial aid yet?
Oof, that’s a bit more of a drive than me. I lived 8 miles away from USC, but depending on traffic I’d get there in either 20 minutes or 40+ minutes. I didn’t have a car of my own, so I usually took Uber or carpooled with somebody who worked in the Downtown area, so I’m not sure how much parking passes are I’m afraid My favorite library to study/do homework in was Leavey and I was usually in the lower level. I’d definitely see people napping there on these long bench-like seats. Staff didn’t seem to bother them, but I found them picky about other things at times. I recall a worker getting mad because a girl was eating pizza. I guess they have a preference for tidy snacks and pizza was too messy.
Yep, I think it’ll be tough and if I can’t take it after the first semester I might sublease an apartment for the spring. I know you said you didn’t have a car, but I’ve been looking at all the parking structures and I think that Figueroa, Flower, and McCarthy looks the best as they’re closest to Marshall. Any insight?
Hi!
So that’s actually the start of the fall 2021 from what I’ve heard from the admissions office.
Apparently we register for classes after we meet with our advisers during the three day orientation process.
The orientation office told me we should be getting an email about a scheduled meeting with the adviser that is going to be a week before orientation.
Wow! That’s impressive! What will you do with your masters afterwards?
When I had my sights set on UCLA at first, it took me well over an hour to get there and I left at 7AM, so I definitely don’t think that kind of commute would have worked for me, but yeah, I guess you have to see how it is first to judge. McCarthy Way was my favorite USC entrance, haha. I always had my Ubers drop me off there. It’s definitely not too far from the Marshall building at all. Although I can’t really offer too much insight about how busy the parking structure gets.
I definitely plan to go into industry. I would ideally love to work at Amazon. I thought about continuing my studies and maybe trying for a PhD (at UW, USC, or UCLA), but I think I need a break from academia.
been 5 weeks for me…nothing
oohh okay, thank you! i’ve been a bit concerned with my FA but I guess all I can do is wait since it’s so case by case
when’d u submit ur sgr?

Yeah, that makes sense! You’re doing an amazing job! Keep it up!
