2023 PSU Waiting for Decisions

Hi!!! Just got admitted to penn state UP fall 2019:)))
DUS
OOS
1320
3.8

Very emotional! Good luck to all!!!

^Can you edit and add: major, college, unweighted and weighted GPA, class rank, number of Honors/APs?

@MYOS1634
weighted: 3.8
SAT: 1320
Major DUS
honors/aps: 15

@meena4114: thanks!

@CalinAmry Our school! An A in my kids HS is a 94%! I think I misspoke before, a B+ is a 90%. So a 3.3, but still, the comparison remains, at the school 5 miles up the road, a 90 is an A = 4.0. My kids school a 90 is a B+ - 3.3. Huge difference when looking at overall GPA’s.

I was looking for scholarships for my daughter on PSU and a came a cross this one I thought would be good for some that were accepted for summer.

Hi there, my son who applied in November under early action is still currently waiting for his decision. I understand that decisions are supposed to be out by the 31st but with Penn State closing early today I was wondering if it is still at all possible that they will update the portal today at midnight like they usually do with a wave of decisions?

Hey all! First, I have been stalking y’all for days now that we are so close to the end! I am so appreciative for the openness demonstrated by so many! You’ve kept me sane. Thank you! Been obsessed with the comparing of stats and hoping and praying we would hear soon. Congrats to all who heard good news! Outta my mind with all the waitlisters who are super amazing with their stats! Still, we wait.

My son is top 7% of 335 and SAT of 1280, GPA 3.97, lots of honors, DE, AP, in various activities
applied for Bio & in state. Legacy X2 and a brother who’s a junior. Applied in Sept as EA and deferred. Still ‘under review’. A week ago he updated his SRAR to include 1st semester grades (which were amazing), sent an email to admissions and they replied with acknowledgement and appreciation and said good luck! ??
I have to tell you 3 years ago my son applied and was accepted by 11/14 in Mech E, and had similar stats. I never thought we would have an issue with the current app and now to see all those who also are deserving get put on wait list is nerve wracking. Whatever the methodology is, I can only imagine the difficulty in making the decisions, and bet they wish they could take everyone. For us, we will keep our fingers crossed and maybe we will hear good news soon. Thank you all for unknowingly keeping me calm these past few days! Hope to hear good news soon for all of us!

@nittany5 ???thanks for sharing your experience, good luck, hope you get good news!

Yay, FINALLY A DECISION FROM PSU UP, what ammounts to a Denial unfortunately.

I can move on now :)

Admission Decision

We have completed our review of your application. While we are unable to offer you admission to the University Park campus for either summer or fall, you may be eligible for the Nursing program at another Penn State campus.

Due to limitations on the size of the first-year class at University Park and the outstanding caliber of recent applicants, it is inevitable that many good students who demonstrate academic success will be asked to consider other Penn State campuses. The following campuses offer the baccalaureate degree in Nursing: Penn State Altoona, Penn State Erie, Penn State Fayette, Penn State Mont Alto, and Penn State Scranton. If you are eligible for the Nursing program at one of these campus locations, you will need to complete your Nursing degree at the same campus at which you start.

Please visit admissions.psu.edu/campuses to learn more about the unique aspects of each Penn State campus. I hope you will carefully consider which of these campuses may be right for you and contact the admissions staff at the campuses or email us at admissions@psu.edu to learn more about your options. It is important to note that some campuses have limited on-campus housing, so please contact the campuses that interest you as soon as possible.

We will not take any further action on your application until we hear from you.

A great Penn State education is still available to you. Although it may not start out as you had originally planned, I hope you will consider the opportunity to earn a Penn State degree and enjoy the lifetime of benefits it brings. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Since PSU UP was not a top 3 choice my DD is not too dissapointed by the decision, on the other hand the process & wait was a caomplete (in her words) ■■■ show / let down.

Congrats to those who got in, good luck to those still waiting. Stats in the other thread, timeline below>

DD, OOS , Nursing UP, EA Comm App 10/13, moved to “Jan 31” group 12/22, portal status change to “under review” 1/24, Denied 12:05am today. No emails from PSU since 11/9

Congrats to those who got news today! New posts on decisions only show a new wave !
My d must be at bottom of a bucket, since August, now frozen by polar vortex 1/31, it will be feb before we get a decision, oh well, no biggy ??
my d still blissfully unaware of portal,
focused on awesome senior year, School closed today, polar vortex here too sc pa, will bake cookies and study all day ?
Good luck to all still waiting!!!:snowflake::snowflake::snowflake:

@gmancc so sorry!!! Your post loaded while I was typing and editing post of my congrats to others
So I just saw your news now
I’m sure your d will find her best place elsewhere as u say
Thanks for the many laughs while we waited together ??? best wishes

@nittany5 That is interesting you were able to update the SRAR. I reached out several months ago to Admissions wanting to send my son’s first marking period grades (all As) and the response was that they don’t consider senior year grades unless waitlisted - so I emailed a copy of them anyway. In addition, the portal doesn’t even have the means to update the SRAR because that icon button disappeared after PSU received all the necessary support materials. His is still ‘under review’ for EA. ?

Is anyone’s “application materials still being verified”? Mine aren’t even “under review.”
Is it because I’m international? Because I applied on the priority deadline.
Should I contact them or is this normal?

At last we have a decision
Admission to 2+2 for Eberly College of Science at the Beaver campus (which we chose because we had family there - it was always “UP or bust”). Given that his application wasn’t even looked at until January, and the overall chaos of this admissions process who knows
he’s certainly not taking it personally.

We have no ties to PSU, just thought it would be a good fit for what he wants to study (Physics/Astrophysics). But with offers from Purdue and Pitt (and potentially Wisconsin-Madison after being “properly” deferred to RD), he’s got a great future ahead of him. Good luck to those still waiting, I hope you get the decision you want. And if not, I hope you find joy in your other options!

@GmanCC I have worked with many RN’s that have completed the program at Altoona campus. Its just as hard. Its a great program! I would atleast check it out before you rule it completely out. Best of luck to your D!

So ukexpat88 son ap didn’t get looked at until January, but has a decision today. Those of us waiting since August and September don’t

Twilight zone

My daughter heard at 12:01 am that she was denied at UP, accepted in Altoona.
(Virginia resident, 1290, 4.1 GPA, see Decision thread for more details)

"I am pleased to offer you admission to the College of Nursing with the intended major of Nursing for Fall 2019 at Penn State Altoona. We are excited to welcome you to the Penn State family!

While we were not able to offer you admission to University Park, we are happy you will join Penn State through Penn State Altoona. All Penn State campuses are part of one educational system which means your curriculum will be the same at any of our campuses.

Each Commonwealth campus offers a unique experience to students. By speaking directly to a representative of the campus, you will be able to learn more about how you can make Penn State Altoona feel like home. If you have questions, please contact Penn State Altoona:"

I think if they had actually been able to review her August application in a timely manner instead of waiting until after mid-January, she would have been accepted to the main campus. Unfortunately, by the time they got to her application, it looks like their UP class was full.

While it’s nice that they admitted her to Altoona, as an out of state student with acceptances from more competitive schools, she isn’t going to consider paying out of state tuition for a satellite campus with a 92% acceptance rate and mid-50% SATs of 1000-1180. She can do that in-state if she wanted that experience.

I’m not at all disappointed. I was actually hoping she wouldn’t get in because I was disgusted by the way Penn State handled admissions this year and did not want her to go. Sadly, Penn State was a front runner for her initially, but our opinion changed due to the admission process.

**Advice for future applicants: We should have sent her first quarter grades later. With applying in August, the grades weren’t available, and we didn’t think of sending them. She had a first quarter 4.7 in a very rigorous curriculum. Later applicants were able to include first quarter grades and she was at a disadvantage not sending them.

@ziveli513 he was in the EA pool, same as yours. We just happen to know that his application wasn’t reviewed prior to the deferral. And he didn’t exactly get the decision he was hoping for. Wishing you a better outcome.

@UKexpat88 UKexpat, sorry to hear that he didn’t receive a UP offer. Sounds like he has some really great options though.

@ziveli513 Don’t go straight to conspiracy theory. We don’t really know that his application wasn’t looked at until January. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. It is a bit of a big black hole this year, but that doesn’t mean that if you applied in August you were immediately shuffled to the 2+2 pile.

How is it that your daughter is unaware of the portal, but you seem to be have answers every day?
