FWIW just got a reply from an admissions counselor to the email my d sent this morning
Confirming application ok, admissions is working hard to roll out EA decisions ASAP, should get a decision by end of next week
Basically same as phone call answer from this morning. Except now saying generally decisions by end of next week instead of Monday
But no acknowledgement of delay ?♀️
???to all still waiting
@CalinAmry A commonwealth campus is a branch campus. I would not go to Scranton as an out of state student. I would consider Altoona, Harrisburg or Erie campuses as an out of state student and there are other students there from out of state. When my son went to Altoona, he was friends with several OOS students. That being said, some students do not like to start at a commonwealth - even though I think it’s a great idea if you need more time to get ready for the rigor at the main campus.
When you go to a commonwealth campus, you still graduate from the main campus because you go there after 2 years. So the prestige is still there. 60% of ALL Penn State graduates started at a commonwealth campus. It won’t even be on your diploma.
@calinamry I can understand why you seem to have decided not to choose to accept 2+2 at penn state as an out of state student
For In state students who need to academically or financially it makes sense, especially in state if penn state is a lifelong or legacy dream
But you posted you have been accepted at UMASS and other schools so I wish you best of luck!
At least u finally got a decision from penn state after waiting for months as EA
I GOT IN!!! I’m a transfer student at community college (there’s no thread for transfers on this forum, hope it’s okay if I post here).
California community college student
White / Female
Major: Secondary Education
GPA: 3.9
Extracurriculars: YouTube and freelance writing/editing
Job/Work Experience: part-time teacher
Volunteer/Community service: 5 years for hospice care, 2 years for food banks, 3 years tutoring, 1 year teacher’s assist
@ziveli513 Thank you Yeah, I applied to the main campus (University Park) about 2 months ago, so it is one of the first universities I have heard back from.
good luck to everyone else who hasn’t heard back!!
@ziveli513. If I read the thread correctly, congrats on your D’s acceptance to Clemson. My S has been focused on PSU and Clemson as 1 and 2…It’s interesting how the acceptance criteria/process is not aligned between similar Universities. My S was accepted to PSU on Jan 29th but still has not heard from Clemson. I suspect that a decline from Clemson is imminent based on everything we are seeing on other threads. Whereas your D was accepted to Clemson and obviously wants to go to PSU. I hope she gets the good news soon.
@pama3115 yes my d was accepted by Clemson in December, they only notify by postal mail so yes each university is so different it seems ?
I hope u get good news from Clemson soon. I haven’t read any forums except penn state so I am not aware of other college admissions issues
My d was lucky to get into Clemson and to get notice after 10 weeks, yes ironic we have opposite situation between the two schools. My d is very tempted by Clemson, but it’s so far and so much more $$ since we are Oos
Good luck!
?♀️Still under review. Hope others got good news ?
Have a good weekend!
and hope we have news by Monday as admissions said to me on phone yesterday morning
or by end of next week as admissions replied in email yesterday afternoon ???
Pama and Ziveli.Been watching Penn State and Ohio State and Clemson thread. Interesting how many kids with great stats get into only 2 of the 3. Probably the same on other school threads.
My son got into both Ohio State and Penn State in Jan. Still waiting on Clemson but doesn’t look good . WVU and University of SC both were quick and offered $ quick. We applied in Oct everywhere . He is OOS ,engineering ,30 ACT ,rigorous courses,4.4 WGPA with average ec activities, best school in out state . So kinda middle of the road for these schools which is why we focused on them and their great reputations.
Yesterday was very pleased to find out got accepted to U of Florida as it was his reach school . They let you know from the start that you wouldn’t know til Feb. Yesterday was decision day and you checked online at 6 pm to see if you got in . They had a countdown clock and everything on the website .It was very exciting and nice to know when the decision was coming out.
I have read about kids at all these schools that sounded like should have gotten in easily and didn’t.
Of all the schools we applied to Penn State was the only one to miss deadlines . Penn State moved down my kids list from the number one spot when he got the holiday letter that he was deferred. By the time he got in it felt very anticlimatic. We really felt that it was just a blanket deferral for many and that Penn State got overwhelmed by applications .I am sure that is not how Penn State wants the process to feel to its students.
Wish everyone luck with the process at all schools and a successful college career. Sending good wishes and know that this time next year all of our kids have finally picked the right school and major and having a fabulous experience.
This is now the only thread I keep checking cause my fingers are crossed for all those that are still waiting from EA and all others also .
@lenoir???congrats for your son! That’s great news for Florida and his other offers?
So many great students and parents represented here , wishing each other well as we spend time here together ?
My d was also accepted to Uof fl, loved the way they handled notice too, checked online after 6 pm on date certain 2/8
So exciting, applied there for football and sunshine but probably too $$$ oos and so far
Going south is a dream but still most likely will stay in state pa. Yes from Pitt, still hoping UP, then lots of research for final decision.
Quick question, My daughter was accepted on Tuesday morning. We were going to take one more trip to the 3 colleges she was considering next weekend. She is now leaning towards Penn State (when I say leaning, I mean pretty much decided on it). I remember seeing on these boards someone saying that if you wait too long to accept that you could get really bad housing. I’m starting to panic that if we wait until next week, she could get worse housing. I’d really appreciate any information or advice you all have. Thank you in advance!
This is our 4th child and was our 4th application to Penn State University Park. Every year I learn something new about the process because every year is different. Ziveli513 I am so happy you called - it was needed and does help.
@greatescape74 thank you for your support ? I think remains to be seen if calling helps my d but I really hope u are right and decision comes Monday
What i have learned so far is that the application experience can vary widely from school to school for the same student, my d has now been accepted to
7 Competitive schools and no answer from psu main except missed deadlines for decisions
And that the admissions process within the same school can vary widely and for some imo unfairly
like what I have experienced with psu compared to my d classmates who were accepted last fall (very similar stats/majors)
And a wait list started for UP in January !
Other big schools have issues too but that’s no excuse for psu
Psu admissions process seems worst to me so far because several policies I think have resulted in unfair disappointments. Still hoping we get good news though of course
Btw, I just refreshed my memory of the 42% acceptance rate and highly competitive gpa at u of Florida which just accepted my d
And Clemson 47% acceptance rate and high gpa, d accepted last December
Come on psu up, for my d and all the other EA and priority review and wait listed still waiting!!
Penn state failing to meet deadlines for decisions again this year is eye opening
@CarolynAP The kids who got stuck with “bad” housing are the ones that accepted on May 1st. They are usually put in supplemental. However, some kids end up loving supplemental - I know a current freshman that was offered the opportunity to move into a traditional 2 person room for spring and turned it down. All 5 girls in their supplemental stayed there.
You will be fine. It is better to make a real decision. Our guidance counselors discourage accepting and then reneging - they believe it reflects poorly upon the high school and kids that follow.
