2023 PSU Waiting for Decisions

@airway1 could you please tell me when your son had applied and when did he get his acceptance message? did he apply in rolling admissions before the Nov. 30 priority date? btw congrats!

One last thing, and chuck it up to stupid conspiracy thinking, my you one jokes we have been black-listed ever since her older sister turned down PSU’s Smeal college of biz acceptance 3 years ago to attend another school…

@airway1 That’s anecdotal. I didn’t say ALL international applicants haven’t yet or won’t hear by Jan 31. Just that international applicants are on a different timeline and should have no expectation on hearing by Jan 31. Can they? Yes! Is it within the parameters that Penn State promised for a decision timeline? Not necessarily. One can hear earlier, but the deadline to hear is not until later

@omnom2169 he applied Petroleum Eng nov 7th rolling admissions…

@jlhpsu I think it really depends if you show interest… I called them a few times showing lots of interest… after all it’s a yield game for them… plus I think it helps to Be an international from a country that’s not India, China or South Korea

@omnom2169 I think your original question was has anyone international gotten any notice or decision?
Seems at least one has
Hope more international applicants will reply!
Meanwhile good luck!

@airway1 OK that’s good to know, but it looks like I will be waiting a lot longer than you guys. I didn’t know about the notification date for internationals, I just assumed it would be by Jan 31. I just found out it’s by May. I have been refreshing the portal just like you guys for days and losing sleep for no reason apparently…

Damnit you guys are still lucky…at least you will get to know in a few days :frowning:

@jhlpsu thank you for letting me know about the alternate timeline for internationals. I guess amidst all the other applications, I just forgot to look into it.

Well, I’ll just keep hope that I get lucky and my application gets reviewed soon in the rolling process.

@omnom2169 when I called I was told it’s January so I expected to get an acceptance or decline by Jan… May is too long way I doubt they will wait until then… past posts have said University Park is full not sure how that’s possible to early … I would call the admissions and check with them

I applied by Nov 1st. I never got a deferral message. I have had ā€œYour application is currently under review. We have received everything required to complete your application. Once a decision is made, it will be posted hereā€ posted since December.

@ww4397 Not sure - this is our first time doing the college process. DD got an email that explains the detail, and then went to portal and it shows the same info.

The email basically explains that they have identified her as a student they want - but she is wait-listed for the university park campus option. They said she has the choice to accept the wait list (I guess this is not automatic), or, decline the waitlist and be automatically accepted into the 2+2 program where she would start at another campus and then transfer after 2 years.

I will be honest here - we have never seen PSU (it’s just out of ā€˜drop by and check it out’ driving range for us in CT), and actually know nothing at all about the branch campuses. DD applied based simply on PSU being an excellent all around school with good programs in the areas she is interested. I’m thinking we apply for the wait list for university park - can’t imagine she would choose a PSU branch option over one of the other main campus schools she has been accepted to.

Hi CalinAmry—-Did you check the ā€œearly actionā€ box?

Either way, good luck—I hope it goes your way!

I just don’t understand why this is taking so long. My stats are above their average stats, naviance says last year that everyone who applied from my school got in. This is making me anxious. And I did check, Provincetown, it doesn’t mention anything about deferral unfortunately.

@CalinAmry We have the same messaging on the portal and applied prior to the Nov 1st deadline. Hang tight - we have 4 days to go. Hopefully a decisions comes to fruition by then.

@airway1 It doesn’t depend on if you show interest. Their common data set makes clear that interest is not considered. You found out because it’s a random process so you were lucky enough to find out sooner. That’s possible for international students. My point was, for any international student wondering why they didn’t hear yet, the likely answer is because the application deadline to even APPLY hasn’t passed yet for international students. Therefore, it’s likely that the bulk of their international decisions have not yet been made.

@omnon2169 According to the Penn State timelines, you should hear NO LATER than mid April if you applied by Feb 1 as an international applicant. Good luck!

@HankCT The Beaver Campus is just fine

The branch campuses aren’t worth it from OOS IMHO, so accepting the waitlist is a ā€œnothing to loseā€ situation.

@HankCT Agree with MYOS here…Especially not the Beaver campus. The ONLY campuses I would even consider as OOS are Altoona, Harrisburg and Erie which are 4 year colleges in their own right. I’d hang on the wait list while you explore other options and see what happens.

Right now I have been accepted into CU Boulder, Michigan state and now i’m still waiting for Penn State as my first choice. I don’t know if it will be worth it going to a commonwealth school at Penn State, or instead going to the schools that already accepted me?
