2023 PSU Waiting for Decisions

So I was reading the link posted above and I saw this does anyone know which programs might not notify

will receive an admission decision no later than January 31 (with the exception of a few programs that notify applicants at a later date)

@ChineseinUSA On this page: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/2101617-class-of-2023-admissions-decisions-only-penn-state-p22.html Poster jlhpsu wrote to someone else: “The ONLY campuses I would even consider as OOS are Altoona, Harrisburg and Erie which are 4 year colleges in their own right. I’d hang on the wait list while you explore other options and see what happens.” I found this helpful.

Ok thank you @MyaCocoa

@jlhpsu @MYOS1634 Thanks both. When I check out the branch campuses on Niche, none of them score well, they are similar to branch state schools here in CT (B to C+ grades overall, with mediocre academic scores and low campus scores). While doing a 2+2 and graduating from Penn State will net you an overall good degree, and with the cost of in state tuition for those in PA who want to pursue that direction, it makes a lot of sense.

As an OOS who has already accepted to schools ranked similar to PSU (that would provide a great campus, food, teachers and student life, etc.), there is zero chance we would go tot OOS 2+2 option.

So we accepted the wait list as a wait and see scenario. In the end, however, unless merit is also provided - which would seem unlikely after being put on the wait list - PSU is 8 to 11K more per year than the schools that already said yes and offered merit.

There’s no merit at Penn State - not even for instate residents. There’s something for Schreyer students, Millennium for science scholars, and Provost Award, none of which put a dent in OOS tuition. (To give you an idea, Schreyer is 5k).
Congratulations to your daughter on the nice acceptances with merit.
I agree flagship campuses are better than a branch psu in any case and would be cheaper to top it off, so I wouldn’t hesitate to cross PSU out.

As we wth 1/31 deadline breathlessly wait these last few days, please remember that
psu admissions website says though decision will be made by 1/31
Portal update may take a few days so don’t lose heart!
We are almost there, my d waiting since 8/15
Best wishes and good luck to all who wait

Has anyone who has been under review received a decision today?

Has anyone else gotten an email this morning saying the decision was posted but then checked the portal to see no update??

@mayaaaad According to all of the posts on this thread, no one has ever received an email directing them to view a change in their portal (unless I missed a similar post). What did your email say, exactly, if you do not mind sharing?

Still waiting. No email. No change to portal . My son did wear his Penn State hoodie for good luck today. Thursday Jan 31 will be here soon.

Is there anyway for us to check out deferral message because I don’t remember if it was deferral until jan 31st or til regular decision.

@walleeve
When did you submit your application?

Not yet.

@pama3115 this was the email:

Thank you for your continued interest in Penn State. We have completed our review of the University Park Wait List.
Please log on to MyPennState to view your decision.

I may have misinterpreted but it seems like a decision was supposed to be posted?

@mayaaaad! That’s so odd! Hope it’s good news for you in the end but no wonder u are puzzled
Were u wait listed and hence the email?
Might be worth calling admissions imo

@ziveli513 I hope so too! Kind of upset it got me so excited just to find out there was no change on the portal though
was wondering if anyone else got this lol

@mayaaaad, portal update occur around/after 6pm. I’d call admissions and ask asap!

@mayaaaad Just so I am clear
 you had apparently previously elected to go on the UP Wait List when offered that option?

I am perplexed by the wording you got, “We have completed our review of the University Park Wait List.” My son is also on the Wait List. He has not gotten an e-mail. It would be good news if they are already working on making offers through it! But it seems too soon.

@pama3115 I think the difference here is what the portal says to those who choose to Wait (List). The portal talks about “notifying” and “contacting” whichever way the result goes, but it does not say what MODE of communication. E-mail, portal, snail mail - all unclear. I am reading @mayaaaad’s message as somehow they were ready to take off the Wait List already - or at least whomever sent the e-mail thought so.

@MyaCocoa. Thanks. Who knows at this point? We were not waitlisted last week with those that were and our portal remains “under review”.

@MyaCocoa I got the notification that I was waitlisted on Friday and then Friday night I got an email confirming I accepted the waitlist offer
