I have seen a post about verbally confirming over the phone with penn state numerous times that the portal updates at 8 am, i have seen countless posts before that, that the portal updates at midnight and now @GmanCC you are saying the portal updates at 6pm… are you 100% sure? How do you know?
Last week the portal had multiple updates between 2pm and 4pm. I think that the previously anticipated/scheduled updates are now an obsolete gauge of when it updates considering the commitment to have decisions by the 31st
That is correct. Prior to last Thursday, the portal was updating just after midnight - so to PSU’s point, they suggested checking in the morning. Now that the clock is running out to 1/31, veteran posters have advised that the site could update multiple times throughout the day.
@User7531, i concur that up to Dec 22 portal updates were 8am and or 12pm midnight, but Thu. last week 2 of my DD’s classmates got a 6pm portal update. OOS NJ (one accepted, one waitlisted) so I used that.
In retrospect and re-reading recent posts, @pama3115 seems to be correct that portal updates appear to have been coming out at all times of the day.
I was waitlisted to Smeal at UP. After reviewing some others who were accepted to different majors I feel my scores were better than many and I did not understand how competitive it would be to get into Smeal originally. Since i’m not set on being a business major, but rather felt I would enjoy it, does anyone think I would be able to contact admissions and ask for my application to be reviewed for a different major such as going undecided? I am more interested in attending Penn State rather than what I hope to study, so I don’t want my selection of a major to effect me in a negative way. Thanks for the input
@psu42019 only an admissions counselor operating in the current cycle can answer your very specific questions about your case imo but I think yes you can ask
I hope u call, ask for a counselor not just a phone answerer

Thursday at midnight I was waitlisted (Aka friday morning)
Hey last Thursday, January 24, they updated my status saying that I would see my status update soon, and then an hour or two later it reverted back to my original status, saying they’ve received my application and all documents and are currently reviewing it. I’m so confused because I applied Early Action and was deferred to Priority January 31st but it doesn’t even say that anymore. I also didn’t get any email. Will I still receive my application before the 31st??
@ariaful If you applied early action then you will be receiving some sort of response by the 31st. On another note, I changed my major to DUS on January 14th and when my application updated it still had my early action status as confirmed, so i’m not exactly sure whether or not I will be receiving a response by the 31st or later because I changed the major. Anyone know what would happen?
It’s annoying to look on the acceptances thread and see acceptances being posted by people who did not apply EA or priority!

@greencarrot01 I am in the same boat as you (changed major) and I called admissions and they said i would receive by Jan 31. I believe you will as well!

I emailed their admissions office and simply gave them my ID number, name, and the major i’d like to change into
