Y’all have convinced me that he should be fired. I don’t closely follow Big 10 football. Heck, I’m still trying to learn the SEC. I think hearing/seeing how he just stood there and let his players go at it is a bad look, especially when contrasted with how UT’s coach handled his players after the game. Agree with y’all that said it’s a culture thing, and culture starts at the top.

I’m not sure that I get the reference. Are you talking about the real UT – that is, the one in Knoxville – or the poseurs in Austin?
The article contains the video of Ryan Day, dazed and confused, asking one of his players, “What happened?” right after the scuffle broke out.
Certainly not a good look for the coach.
The UT ranked no. 2 in the country
This end of game interaction warms my heart for our GA teams. I’ve been congratulating my GT fan friends the past few days. Even though it was a heartbreaking loss to them, they outplayed UGA. Period. Those players and coaches were mentally exhausted when the game finally ended after midnight, but it’s good to see the respect and graciousness shown. I hope all the players took note of that example by both coaches.
Clean, old fashioned hate… done right at the end.
Some people have class. I wouldn’t expect less from Smart. Good to see.
So the NCAA handed both OSU & Michigan $100K fines. Whoop de do. That does not hurt programs that spend $25M building teams/have large alumni one bit. How about something with teeth in it, to show that that conduct is not acceptable.
Maybe like…both teams forfeit…or starting lineup sit out the next game. I know it’ll never happen…but nobody should be surprised when it happens again if there are no repercussions…
EDIT: The Big Ten (not the NCAA) handed out fines. Brain fart on my part.
The NCAA needs to ban this “flag planting” and do it much more forcefully.
A Penn State player only got as far as unrolling the flag before the coach put a quick and emphatic end to that on his watch. It is possible for the teams to control their players if they want to.
Agreed, it is absolutely possible for a coach to control his team – but that doesn’t happen all the time. Having the NCAA mandate serious consequences (ex. forfeiting the win, ineligibility for bowl game, loss of scholarships) for such actions could put an immediate end to the issue – but it is unlikely the NCAA will have the backbone to do this.
Perhaps allow the schools to pay the fines out of NIL monies that would otherwise be paid to the offending players?
ncaa is the emperor with no clothes. its time has passed. let the fbs break off and have a 64 team super conference
I suspect that may happen sooner than we think. The Big Ten and SEC are already pushing for 3-4 playoff auto bids “each” in 2026. The CFP ranking “elders” are run mainly from SEC and B10 schools anyway. They already destroyed the PAC12. If that happens the B12 and ACC might split off with the rest of the shunned conferences and start their own league. The big schools can have their playoffs with record low TV ratings. They can be the next MSNBC.
nil price to flip qb from lsu to umich
Go Blue. Their really first hurry into NIL. I know David Portnoy from Barstool betting was involved. He’s on ESPN Chicago a lot. He was saying never again does he want to see a team like this year… Lol. Sherrone Moore was talking about revenue sharing plan’s. I hope they give everyone some. Not everyone is a super star but they still come and practice and maybe on the “B” team to practice against. Those kids should get a piece of the pie. If anything the money can go back right to the school for tuition etc.
My only serious question and it’s being discussed a lot. If OSU couldn’t beat this team. How are they going to best next year’s team with already high recruits? This team had a handful of good player’s and some of those never saw the field.
To make things even worse OSU is getting pummeled in Basketball as we speak. They scored 17 points the first half
The NCAA doesn’t even allow flags to be displayed on the field during tournaments. If they want to make rules, they can. Or just say ‘There is a million dollar fine if a player runs around on the field with a flag.’ Yep, I bet the coaches would ban the flags and stadium security would confiscate them during the game if they were smuggled in.
There is limited fighting in hs hockey because players who fight are disqualified from that game and the next - even into the next year. College doesn’t have many fights. The Pro’s? Still fighting.
I saw an article that Bevo won’t be allowed on the sidelines at the SEC championship game this weekend between Texas and Georgia. There was a link to this video from when Texas and Georgia played in the Sugar Bowl in 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jyFNKxH3xg
This irritates me to no end. I was really surprised that Uga hasn’t traveled to some games. If we can haul a steer places, why can’t you fly/drive a dog? People do it all the time.
