2024 college football thread

Whew. Another OT, UGA? You’re killing me! It was nice seeing Stockton step up when Beck was injured.

Great game!!! Go Dawgs! :heart::black_heart::heart::black_heart:

At the end of the Texas/UGA game it almost seemed as if the refs wanted Texas to win! ( I have no dog in this fight). But first, no targeting? Then Stockton has to come out? What?

Yeah. I wasn’t familiar with that rule, TBH. But it was a nice wrap up to the game having Beck back in for that play.:black_heart::heart::black_heart:

The refs had no discretion about Stockton coming out. There has been a rule in college football for quite some time that if a player’s helmet comes off during the game he must sit out the next play. No exception.

I was expecting a direct snap to a running back on that last play with Stockton out – but good for Beck for coming in and making the handoff.

I thought it was an automatic sit-out after a helmet coming off too. But if I understood the commentators, it’s dependent on if a penalty is called? Is that right? It just seems odd. Does a penalty call somehow mitigate the potential for a head injury?

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding the rule. Regardless I’ll take the W and be grateful for the extra time for the team to rest and recover before the CFP.

I think it is automatic with no exception.

I hate that it’s automatic if you win your conference. Some conferences are not created equal. I am sure Bama will be in it because…well they are Bama.

Helmet comes off, you must sit out the next play ( and if they suspect a concussion, you must be evaluated). If you TAKE your hellmet off, penalty and you sit out.

Before the ‘sit out one play’ rule, helmets were coming off all the time. They wore them loosely or they wanted them to come off to get an equipment stoppage of time. Now many fewer helmets come off, and that’s a good thing.

Hahahaha. If the refs wanted Texas to win, they would’ve called more holding penalties on GA.

Also, that wasn’t targeting. He didn’t lead with the crown of the helmet.

I loved seeing two good coaches duke it out.

Anyone else watching the selection show?

I am so curious whether SMU or Bama makes it in. Interesting that SMU isn’t doing a watch party.

And I think that I said upthread, but UT’s loss (or GA if they had lost) in a way could mean an easier path – an extra game, but then you potentially get to play the conference champs from one of the smaller conferences in the second round.

Can you tell that I love college football?

I love college football, too. So much passion and enthusiasm.

Off topic, but did you see the Dr. Pepper ad where the kid says he feels like he lives in a commercial? I thought that was pretty cute.

We get to play Clemson, one of my other favorite teams! Mukuba plays his former teammmates, and Klubnik is playing in front of the hometown crowd! Fun! Oh, and that game against Arizona State could be great. That Scattebo kid was a beast.

Woot! SMU gets in!

Bama could make a case, but three losses are three losses. You have to take care of business. Not even scoring a TD against Oklahoma was a killer.

I agree with you, but it’s shocking that Alabama didn’t make the first college football playoffs!

SEC Network said selection committee took the easy way out w/ SMU by avoiding the Bama, Ole Miss, South Carolina fight.

I hope this seeding consoles your dad after last night’s loss. Have you talked to him today? I know that you don’t call him right after a loss!

Clemson threw a wrench into the whole works :joy: Sorry Bama :flushed:

I think the mistake is Boise State. THey have one (really) good player, but their Strength of Schedule was not high (like Indiana). They should have been ranked lower and had to play a first round game.

Oh well. Just hope Travis Hunter wins the Heisman and goes #1 in the draft. He is a fantastic player, 4.0 student, and by all accounts just a nice person.
