hi, didn’t see a forum for iowa young writers studio for this year so anyone whos applying/ applied/ attended before, any experience and advice would be really helpful and appreciated!! anyone applying this year? also-- if there’s enough people, for us to create a group chat (ie. discord server?)

HIIII yes i’m applying what grade r u in and what category r u applying for? discord server would be great. asked my teacher for a rec the other day and currently dying on the personal statement. my writing sample looks good but i might replace a few poems – im applying for poetry btw. gl!!
I just now decided to apply via impulse, i hear the acceptance rate is like 10-12%? Manifesting!!
The application is seriously short though
ikr so happy the app is so short. still need to write 2 pages more of poetry by the deadline but i can do it 
im editing two pieces i already have (fiction/creative) and they take up all 10 pages in total :o Hopefully its enough

hi hi omg i’m so happy someone acc replied haha. i’m in 11th grade too the acceptance rate is CRAZY tho i’m so nervous. the personal statement is killing me too TT y’all will do so great tho!! i have a question tho- like for your personal statements, are you going to be more formal/technical, or like i guess write it in a more unconventional way? bc i’ve heard different ways ppl have written it

OFCC and also i’m a freshman btw. for my personal statement i think i did it traditionally? idk what counts as like unconventional but i added some narrative to it, like why i write, why i keep writing, i referenced the themes in my sample, and talked abt my fav poet (ocean vuong!!). wbu?
I think I’ll do it narratively since that’s what works in admissions in programs for high schoolers
submitted the application yesterday! and read on their website that they accept like no more than 10 for each workshop focus so super scared bc last year there were like 1400 people that applied?? good luck to everyone!!
Got an email today, and they will not offer an online version of the Summer Residential Program this year, due to lack of interest!!! What?
oh noooo :(( it’s probably because everyone’s applying to the residential one… which means it’ll be so so much more competitive? TT
