Fourth. He could’ve taken the safety and kicked it with a couple of seconds left, but he was so concerned about running out the clock that he didn’t protect the ball. I feel so bad for him.
So happy Ole Miss won!
I saw it referred to as the Music City Miracle version 2.0.
I saw that too - but nothing can come close. Nothing. This was two mediocre teams in early season.
Interesting, Dr. Dyson was my two kid’s assistant principal in hs (they didn’t have interaction with him) and moved on to be principal at one of the high schools. Not sure if he’s still there.
Unbelievable that NC State has no “victory formation.” They don’t take snaps from under center. Ever. And they paid for it.
It was 4th down for NC State. Taking a knee at the line of scrimmage would have turned the ball over on downs with a few seconds to play. They only had to take a safety.
I’m not a rules expert, but I believe the clock would have kept running if he had simply taken a knee.
Not on 4th down. It is a change of possession or turnover on downs.
Correct. On 1st, 2nd and 3rd down, yes; it’s just another running play. On 4th down, the change of possession stops the clock.
Win by a second, lose by a second. Karmic justice. Perhaps we can let the previous controversy rest.
Go Blue.
I hope college football doesn’t let go the obscene celebration by the Texas Longhorn player after sacking the Tennessee quarterback.
He apologized, and the team was given a 15-yard penalty. The other team got an automatic first down. I’m curious what else you would want the NCAA, I guess, to do?
The penalty and the the apology is expected and not enough. It was a deeming ,planned celebration for an event where he excelled. At the very least the coach should have benched him for more than 1 or 2 plays in this game including a start in future games. My opinion, not a fan of any college team.
Definitely an embarrassment. I’d rather that kind of thing be handled by the team than some other body deciding what is bad enough as that feels too subjective. I hope Will Muschamp runs his legs into nubs in practice these next two weeks. ![]()
Hmm, right! ![]()
Running extra laps is punishment for a minor team infraction.
The coach was asked about Simmons’ behavior in his postgame interview:
Sarkisian, whose team skated by Tennessee
20-17 after failing to recover an onside kick with 1:22 to go, told reporters postgame a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty like that simply “can’t happen.” He had three words to describe the celebration and its consequences postgame.
“That’s a bad football play,” Sarkisian said. “We had harped and talked about this game and not getting emotional with the crowd, and that was an emotional play.”
So it wasn’t that the behavior was unacceptable. It was a bad football play, because what could have been a 3-and-out turned into a first down.
It’s always about winning.
What punishment would you mete out and who would do it?
