I know we traded messages on the Pitt thread, but I would encourage your S to reach out to someone else in admissions. I would call the main number, tell them the situation, and ask who in the department he should speak with.

I just checked last year’s waitlist thread and about 53 schools had gone to the waitlist before May 1. We can’t see the volume of offers made to compare, but it actually seems like this year waitlist usage might be running behind last year’s (at this point in time). Who knows how things will turn out.

Thanks. He just called (again) and now they are saying it’s because they required midyear grades — which were provided and marked received February 2. then he was told that they’ve revived 73,000 applications and he has to wait.

Has anyone else had this experience? He’s applied to a bunch of other large schools with a similar number of applicants who also requested midyear grades…. And he’s heard back from all except Pitt.

That would be great if you would put all the reported schools (with the date they were reported) in one post- then people can add to it. Thanks!

If accepted, is Pitt high on your son’s list? Waiting for a decision is fine, just make sure he deposits at a school that accepted him by May 1.

This thread on Reddit shows 38 schools as of 4/20: Reddit - Please wait for verification. I think it seems on a similar pace to last year.

Personally, I wouldn’t trust Reddit. Lots of posts saying they saw notice of movement on instagram.

@Mwfan1921 I agree that reddit is not reliable and I wouldn’t necessarily trust every single report. I just thought it was useful for “scale,” to see that there has been significant early movememt.

For those who don’t realize it, the list of schools is currently in order by date of the waitlist movement. So if you add a school that had an earlier waitlist date than the date you’re sharing, please put it in the appropriate location on the list rather than just adding it to the bottom.

Thanks @AustenNut. . An additional note – these are not in alphabetical order so please be careful when posting as people get movement from the waitlist from the same schools at different times.

I looked at last year’s list to compare the pace of movement. Its looking to be about the same, but it is harder to scan that by date reported b/c last year’s list was alphabetical. Its a very long list but is easier to scan overall (to avoid duplication) being alphabetical. Am thinking before this list gets too long that may be a wiser way to organize it. If we leave it as it is, posters will need to be very mindful to check the whole list to minimize duplication. I will be traveling so not able to help.
