pegula won 1st round as top us seed. alex eala must wait until tues b4 playing. men’s wide open with sinner injured, alcarez rusty, and novak still attempting to break record of multiple slams.
I’ve been identifying my favorites on the website to follow in the draw - Pegula (Roddick predicted her as winner and I say from his mouth to God’s ear!), Keys, Coco, Svitolina in the women’s dream; Fery, Monfils, Shelton, Fritz, Paul & Tiafoe in the men’s. I love that things seem wide open on both sides and how so many US players are doing well. I like Eala as well on the women’s side.
I loved fan week last week with exhibition matches involving Federer and the mixed doubles (which I do have mixed feelings about since they are more entertainment than legit). The induction of Federer and Mary Carillo into the ITHoF last evening was also wonderful. I love how hardcourt season offers me a distraction from current events for 6 weeks or so.
novak may have played his last match. hasn’t lost in the 1st round of a major in 20 yrs. mac said this would be an ideal opponent to start this tourney. he was def wrong
Not a fan of Djokovic, so not sad that he lost.
mac being a snob is a tired act
I love the US Open!! I am really enjoying Andy Roddick’s commentary. I too am not upset that Djokovic lost. Although I do wonder what is up with this recent tendency to wilt in the heat/humidity. My favorite player is Carlos Alcaraz, but I also like all the Americans (Pegula, Gauff, Keys, Shelton, Paul, Fritz, Tiafoe, Tien, Michelson, Zvadja, etc…) and Coboli, Monfils and Svitolina…
McEnroe has often opened his mouth wide enough to insert his foot knee deep, IMO. I recall Chris Evert putting him in his place a few years back when he suggested that Djokovic’s dismissal for hitting a ball at a linesman/ballkid was unfair and unfortunate due to Djokovic’s prominenece and ability to draw fans. Pshawww…
I am also loving Roddick. I fell asleep as Shelton was closing out, but had watched most of the match thinking how good Roddick is. I also love Chris Eubanks. My first exposure to Eubanks was when he played Sinner on Armstrong in 2022 and my D and I wandered in. I’ve been a fan of his ever since.
