26 year playoff drought over!

Hey . . . stop that now! In Chicago, we are definitely the underdogs and there will be no living with the Cubs fans if we don’t get in.
Both the White Sox and Twins have themselves to blame for this situation, in all honesty. Either/or could have sewn it up a while ago.
And keymom – so happy for you and Milwaukee!!

dbwes, even though I bleed Twins blue, I have to admit… wouldn’t a WhiteSox-Cubs World series be a matchup for the ages… with the Cubs trying to beat the curse, and the only team standing in their way, is the cross-town rival Sox. As a baseball fan, that would really be something to see.

The Cubs will draw a huge WS audience but you have to figure Bud et al are shaking in their collective boots over a potential white sox/brewers WS. No one outside of a 150 mile radius will care.

Wearing black for the White Sox today!

“A Cubs fan who is married to a Brewers fan. Oh October will be interesting.”

I’m a Red Sox fan married to a Yankees fan. It doesn’t get any more “interesting” than that! I’m not boasting TOO much right now, though, because I honestly don’t think my Sox can get past the Rays or Angels this year. Both great teams. And my wiley hubby has decided that for this post-season he’s a Cubs fan.

Let’s watch Steinbrenner Jr try to spin this overspending debacle, as Joe Torre plays on in October while Jeter and A-Rod are playing golf. (And Manny Ramirez… who apparently has found some sort of miracle cure for his sore knees now that he’s in L.A.)

Congrats to Brewers and Cubs fans, and have fun with October baseball! Now you can join the rest of the sleep-deprived Nation… why do baseball playoff games start so LATE?

chubeebo – I think the city might implode.

you couldn’t have put it better, dbwes. thanks for the chuckle :)

Sorry the Twins didn’t make it :frowning:
But only 1/2 hour until game time for the Brew Crew.
Go Brewers Go !

That White Sox crowd, all in black, looked eerie behind the players.

Hats off to the Twins for a good fight all season. But oh my Gosh, so excited for the Sox! Gotta enjoy it – TB will be TOUGH.

Good luck, Brewers!!

Why is no one gushing about the somewhat more probable (though still improbable) Angels-Dodgers matchup (The 101 Series?)?

JHS – Is it the same kind of storied rivalry/bitterness as Cubs and White Sox?

Red Sox looked really confident last night.
Panic setting in (a bit) in Wrigleyville.

Go White Sox!!!

Of course it’s not the same kind of storied rivalry as North Side vs. South Side. But L.A. fans just generally seem to run cool, there’s no real mania for any sports team. Maybe if the Crips adopted the Dodgers and the Bloods the Angels . . .

dbwes, for a team projected to finish 4th in the division in a rebuilding year, that indeed was a pretty good twins season. Looking forward to next year’s continued rivalry with the white sox. in the meantime, good luck and do the AL Central proud.

Wearing my Utley shirt and we’re off to see those fighting Phils tonight. A little worried about Myers on the mound but hopefully he’ll have one of his good outings this evening. Taping the debate and watching it when we get home. What a night!
GO PHILS!!!

Well, Myers’ last start against the Brewers at the Bank was (statistically at least) the best of his career, a complete-game two-hitter. (And, shhhhh, his last good start. And he didn’t throw more than a couple pitches faster than 87 mph the whole game. And apart from a Fielder solo home run there were some looooong fly balls hit off of him.)

Hopefully Rickie Weeks is on the bench today. What a difference if he makes that play!! We actually got some hits off of Lidge. I am encouraged. Go CC, Go Brew Crew!
Go Dodgers. The only thing that would make me happier than the Brewers winning is the Cubs losing.

Grand Slam Victorino!!! I can hear Harry Kalas calling it now!!!

Mudville, aka Philly, is happy tonight! Wouldn’t you know the Felizes, Werths, Myers’ and Victorinos of the world would step up when the great lefties couldn’t.

Myers goes 19 pitches against the great Sabathia!

Toneranger, I am jealous.

And then depression set in.
Let’s bounce back like we did in '82. We were down two after coming back from California. But in those days we got three at home.
It could happen.
