30 Day Plank Challenge

Has anyone tried this? It looks like a good way to pass the time as we are homebound from the weather. It also looks like a great way for everyone to strengthen their core. I just did it for 20 seconds and my tummy/hip area started shaking. How can I possibly be that out of shape…

I’m in! We do a pose like this in my yoga class once a week (although with straight arms on palms, not on elbows), and I am usually the first one to give up… I am going to try this starting today!

I’ve been doing a 40 second plank, and then 40 seconds each side for a side plank, two or three times a week for a year. In addition to heavy pilates. It is easier now than it used to be but it still isn’t easy! I don’t think I could do 300 seconds.

I’m in. Twenty seconds for today doesn’t sound so hard, but I’m afraid when it ramps up I’ll be suffering.

That was hard. Tomorrow, twenty again, right?

I’m in. Done for today

Looked simple, but I actually felt a bit dizzy in 20 seconds.

I’m in!

Before my surgery I was up to almost a minute a few times a day. I’ll be happy if I can do 20 seconds now!

Oh, I’m in. This is going to be easy for a week or two! ;)

Man, I love fitness challenges.

I’m in. I take a prescription for acid reflex which I had forgotten for a few days. Not good when doing planks. I barely made it to 20 seconds.

This will be fun! Here is a link providing tips on form and more advanced positions.

Phew! Day One down.

Whole lot of shaking going on, but day one complete.

My son is a certified personal trainer and says that the shaking is normal. He showed me how to do the plank and I started shaking pretty quickly. I thought something was really wrong but he says that he shakes, too. He’s in phenomenal shape so when he told me the shaking happens to him, I didn’t feel so bad.

Did it! See you tomorrow!

FWIW… many trainers feel the plank has its proper place, but doing it any longer than 60 seconds doesn’t have any increasingly beneficial returns; it is overestimated. It may impress people, but you’d be better off doing it for 60 seconds, then doing something sort of dynamic movement.

This I can do.

I recently read that a guy held his body in a plank for 1.5 hours! I was wondering what the record for females was and came across this:

^ welp there goes every excuse I’ve ever had. Day one down!
