30th birthday gift for son

Title says it all…anyone have a suggestion for a 30th birthday present for our son! He is a musician who loves to cook. He lives in a very small apartment with a very small kitchen.

We know we can send money…but…

All Clad? ;)

He has good pans! He has Le Crueset. Some stainless, and some cast iron/enamel.

Cooking classes in Napa…
a great Mother/Son trip ;)

Do they have a Sur La Table where he lives? They have some really cool cooking classes. I’m thinking about getting D2 a gift certificate for Christmas for one of their cooking classes.

I was typing something similar to gosmom. Maybe a lesson from a famous chef or culinary school?

Napa is NOT going to happen. Too far from where he lives and way too far from here. And to be honest, I’m not much into cooking classes! I’ll check Sur La Table. That’s a great idea!

Spices and herbs. They can be very expensive.

thumper, where does he live?

Really good knives if he doesn’t have them already. A vitamix blender.

He has knives.

For background…he has been living in his apartment for four years…so he has much of the kitchen “stuff” he wants.

I don’t have any great suggestion, but the question reminded me of my cousin’s 30th birthday. His mom made him the same cake, complete with “dirt” and the tonka truck on top, that she’d made when he turned 1. I thought that was so sweet.
Is there a concert he would like to attend, or a location you could get him a GC to? Does he have really good speakers for his apartment, or for his car? Does he have Sirius radio? Maybe a year of that? Or some really good headphones? My sons both love their Sennheiser headphones.

Sonos

Good ideas about the Sirius radio. Can he get that in a 2003 car??

I was also thinking about a Bluetooth for his car. But really, he is on,y going to have that for a year more, I think.

Are there material indulgent things he’d like that he might not get for himself, like a gift certificate for a massage or a splurgey restaurant?

I like the baking supplies at Sonoma, with the different shapes. As your son is already into cooking, perhaps a gift certificate there?

Excellent idea about the massage! I think he would enjoy that.

I also thought about car wash gift certificate.

Thumper-you can get it in ANY car. It’s not the same as the kind you can get installed, but if that isn’t an option for him, you can get the actual gadget which plugs into the “cigarette lighter” spot to power it. We looked into this for our older car. My own son turns 30 in a couple of months but I can’t really help with ideas for yours. He describes cooking as “doing battle with food” and loves to work with his hands. I have no idea what I’ll be getting him.Maybe something he could use on his boat or for the pick up he is refurbishing.

Hi Thumper! Does he have an immersion blender? One of my son’s got me one a couple of years ago and I don’t know how I lived without it. It’s so handy for soups, gravy and just smoothing things out.

He doesn’t have an immersion blender…but he has a food processor. That immersion blender is a good idea. Do you have cordless? And what brand?
