I’m currently a junior in high school. I will be taking AP Lang, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Chinese, and Math honors. I’m also in a fall sport. Do you think this is work load is too much? I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!!
Seems pretty reasonable, but I don’t think you provided enough info to give a truly accurate answer. You can gague the situation best, just based on how well you know yourself as a student. Good luck!
You are taking rigorous courses but I think it’s doable if you have experience taking APs. If this is your first time taking APs you might consider dropping one just so it won’t be such a harsh adjustment. However if you have taken them before you will be solid, just remember time management and you’ll be fine!
AP Lang is very time-consuming. There are lots of AP Chemistry labs that all require writing up a thorough lab report. AP Physics can be confusing to some students. AP Chinese – awesome that you are taking that in Junior year already! I don’t know how important your sport is to you, or how time-consuming it is. My daughter dropped her sport (rock climbing team) when she started piling on the AP courses. She missed the sport greatly, and I wonder if that was the right decision, but if she had to do it all over again I think she’d make the same decision. It was very important to her personally to take the AP courses, and it would have been a serious struggle to continue with the climbing team on top of lots of AP courses. I have seen other students manage this brilliantly though, even competing in a sport with national ranking and still taking a challenging course load. So it really depends on you. Just be prepared to manage your time very carefully.
Didn’t you say before that you had trouble with Chinese? Well, I guess you should drop Chinese and stick to those other classes. AP Chinese is time consuming especially learning new characters, meanings, definitions, different styles of literature etc. Knowing how to write Chinese is also really hard for me personally. If I were you, I’d drop AP Chinese.
I think it’s manageable but you have to delegate your time correctly. I am taking 5 AP’s and 1 STEM honors class while doing football Aug-Nov and Volleyball Jan-Apr. It doesn’t leave much time for the typical social life of a high schooler but you have to make choices. Good luck.
I’m a bit late to this conversation, but yes, that workload is just perfect.
I am a current sophomore, and next year I am planning on taking AP Chinese, AP Physics 1&2, AP Lang, and AP Computer Science A. I’m also taking regular US History (or honors, if our school decides to keep it for this year) and Precalc honors. I was originally going to take 5 APs but dropped APUSH because I knew that I would need more time for AP Physics, as it is widely regarded as one of the most difficult classes in our high school.
I hope it’s going well for you so far!
I would not take two lab sciences at once plus a sport.
