<p>Does anyone know where I could find the schedule of evens for this 4th of July in New York City (also, if there are any events on the third)? I tried looking online, but I can’t really find a comprehensive list.</p>

<p>We were there on the 4th several years ago. Went to FDR and watching the midtown fireworks. Definitely have to get there early and be prepared for a LOT of people. Although there were a LOT of policeman everywhere and it definitely felt safe. This was in 01 so perhaps that was due to 9/11.</p>

<p>its so crazy here - i pity those who are heading INTO the city on the 4th, not booking it out to the suburbs for barbeques.</p>

<p>you can go to alternative areas to see the Macy’s fireworks. Try areas of Brooklyn along the waterfront, or Long Island City. Newsday/NY Times usually publish the best viewing spots and schedules,see if the info is a/v early online.If you want to head out to the beach, figure out a way to get to Jones Beach (Long Island RR/shuttle bus) there are fireworks there as well which are nice combined with a day on the beach.</p>
<p>Read a local newspaper the day of or before, it will offer lots of tips on where how etc. :)</p>

<p>It’s a really good idea about the paper, unfortunatrly, I have to decide on things today, because I am coordinating with my friend…</p>
<p>Could anyone please tell me what’s the best location to actually see the Macy’s fireworks. I live on 63rd street, so midtown would be the closest for me, but I am also going to be in Brooklyn that day, and if it’s better in Long Island I could try to make it there too. Does anyone have any personal experience with the different places.</p>

<p>we watched from Greenpoint in Bklyn last year.We were on a brownstone rooftop (nephew lives there) but people were in a park on the riverfront right near us.</p>

<p>If you are in midtown, head out to the FDR drive on the Fourth. It will be closed to traffic probably early in the day, and people will start arriving with beach chairs and supplies (coolers) in the morning. If you don’t get there early enough, people watch from under the roadway, but as one poster stated, there are A LOT of people who come. This is the best place to see the fireworks, from the Manhattan side of the river, and well worth the experience if you ask me. Macy’s fireworks are unbelievable, and everyone should see them in person once.</p>
<p>Don’t go out to the Island, the action is in NYC. If you are in Brooklyn, many people go out to the promenade in Bklyn Heights, and also the streets underneath fill up, but you need to know where to stand so that a building is not obscuring your line of sight. </p>
