silvervestersmom, I had a complete physical a few months ago and was surprised that my Vit. D levels were normal, given my sun-avoiding habits. I do take calcium with D (and magnesium) in it, but not a large dose. Go figure.

Of course, although the late pregnancy is the fountain of youth, actually raising the child tends to accelerate the aging process!

I feel it most in the knees, NYMomof2. I’d like a knee-lift.

And like Nora Ephron, I feel bad about my neck. Everything else I can live with. (But I still want a great moisturizer.)

“You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.”

Vit D deficiency is a big thing lately. I was diagnosed with one a few months ago and I think I’m in the sun pretty much (well, for someone with an indoor job). I had to do the once a week big pill routine and now over the counter stuff. I read an article about it (since I thought it was all a buncho f bullsh**) and it really can be a problem. So, I am being good and taking my Vit D and doing some non-sunscreen pool time.

I make sure I get plenty of sun on me…I use my sunscreen, but I’m sure not anti-sun and even with spf 30 my skin gets color to it. My doc is “tan” too. I childed him about it and told him that we weren’t supposed to look like this anymore. The whole thing is a Catch-22 I think, although the lady down the street from me who has never let a ray of sunshine touch her skin told me she is having horrible osteo problems, D deficiency, etc. and I mentioned she ought to catch a few rays of sun and she looked at my like I had dropped the F-bomb.

I have the Vitamin D deficiency but fortunately that didn’t adversely affect my bone density. I’m in the 98th percentile. I haven’t tried to get whatever passes for tan with my fair Celtic skin/red hair (used to just get a bit of a glow) in 35 years…a long time of sun avoidance. My mother and brother (and all my kids) have darker skin but I inherited my dad’s coloring and he didn’t live long enough to develop cancers and age spots. I’ve always wanted to try a self tanning product but there is no orange in my skin tone, just white/blue and I’ve been afraid the orange look would just be ridiculous on me.

Speaking of hormone replacement: I’m using an estrogen patch, due to osteoporosis. Anyone else?

Donna, I didn’t notice any rosacea in your photo (nor any wrinkles! sheesh!), but what I want to know is – what do you use to make your hair so beautiful? I am deeply envious!

I think these women should fess up about what they do to get such spectacular hair: Caroline Kennedy, Michelle Obama, DonnaL.

Some hair care advice – I just discovered that Aveeno has recently put out a great line of shampoos. I use Nourish & Moisturize by Aveeno, but I understand that their shampoo Nourish & Volumize also gets rave reviews on makeupalley. If you go to the Aveeno website, you can order a free sample.

HRT is considered to be dangerous. I am watching my Osteoporosis by measuring my height, I am .5 inch taller (surprise!) than I am used to be. I have not done anything else in a past 8 years, except exercising 2 hours / day every day, but I enjoy doing it, I would not do it if I did not like it. I also make sure that I am outside in any weather (not tornados though) for at least 1 hour of these 2 hours.
