A day in the life of Social Distancing

@shellfell I don’t think I can post links to YouTube but the name of the aerobic one is

GREAT 20 minute exercise workout for Beginners and Seniors!!

And the yoga I’ve tried so far are:

Gentle Yoga Exercises for Seniors | Strength & Balance | HER Network

And Andriana’s

Yoga For Seniors | Slow and Gentle Yoga

The 2nd yoga was a nice gentle warmup - the one on Her Network did more of the things I do in my class but still not enough stretching for me. I’ll check some different ones out tomorrow…

We took a long walk with the dog.
The family did yard work - raking , weeding, digging a trench to build a small retaining wall.
H and sons are now rewatching some West World episodes to refresh for season 3 premiere tonight- can’t wait!

Slower day than planned but very nice. On phone with older son for a couple hours. Took dogs for nice long ramble through the yard while we talked through where to site the garage we’re finally building.

First–coffee with H and finished NYT including crossword. I separated laundry and will wash tomorrow. H helped me clean and organize cabinets in the game room–we recently took a set of china (mid-century Knowles China–ebonette) from H’s family home and we needed to take everything out of boxes and store it in our house. Walked with H to the town beach and back and then walked through our garden about 2 miles (lots of great stuff coming up). Reading CC and then starting dinner and cleaning kitchen counters with disinfectant. I’m a clean freak anyway and the isn’t helping me.

Got up late, so I finally got 8 hours of sleep
Gym is closed so we did the HASfit 10 minute core and 30 minute dumbell work out that was reccomended her on CC.
Leftover spinach soup and cheese for lunch
Pulled up all the blackberries from my garden because they were acting like thugs, but kept the raspberries.
Went for a walk in the neighborhood, lots of flowering trees beginning to come out.
Back on line.
Leftover take out for dinner soon and TV.

@NJres I got an email on Friday that the staff at our local Senior Center will be delivering Meals on Wheels thru March 27th (I’m guessing they’ll reevaluate after that). I also drive the elderly to medical appointments. I’m on the Board of that organization and wonder if we should be pausing that as well (especially considering many of our drivers are in their 70’s/80’s).

Pretty normal Sunday (slept late, read the paper, did laundry, walked around the neighborhood) - BUT left the house for a couple of errands and found divergent approaches to the situation.

Had an Amazon return at a local store, where there were two clerks, one wearing gloves, the other not. At the “not” station, a woman was loudly proclaiming that she wipes down her workstation routinely and didn’t see the issue. Fortunately, I got the gloved employee, who, unfortunately, pointed out that her attempt to remove a plastic tie on some clothing punctured her gloves. Oh well.

Then I went to a pharmacy to pick up some “real” sudafed, which required the tech to handle my license. No gloves. The fellow in front of me had quite a bit to say about media hype and his theory that no one would actually stay at home for 14 days and how ridiculous this social distancing was. Then I got to touch multiple parts of the same checkout machine he’d used. Half-joking, I said to the tech, “no Purell?” And he reassured me that they wipe them down “often.” At a pharmacy.

Unlike the liquor store, where I for some reason felt the need to visit next. Clerk was wearing gloves, and cleaned the counter and checkout machine after each customer. Which was all great until she told me that her friend had caught COVID-19 on a cruise…

Neighbor is in isolation because of work; just learned that someone at my work has tested positive. Glad I hit the liquor store!

Talked to my Fil/ MiL, both of whom are home with pneumonia
Talked w my niece, who delivered a baby girl this week and lives in Puget Sound
Talked with her mom, who was to go help but isn’t able to fly there
Talked with my mom, undergoing chemo
Talked with my dad, recovering from a regular cold
Talked with S & Dil; both home from work, neither getting paid, had S’s immune suppressant meds delivered via courier. He has not been out of their apartment in more than 2 weeks
Talked w S here, he stood at the end of the driveway. He’s worried about his brother.
Attended church virtually, it was live streamed.
Read work email; I’m one of a skeleton crew due in, physically.
Made chocolate cake with chocolate ganache. DH and I ate it all.
Cried. Tried to breathe. Attempted to avoid any reporting of anything that comes out of a certain politican’s mouth.
Read a book. Ate a box of crackers.
Lifted weights.

I had a lazy Sunday. Made myself a nice breakfast and cleaned my house. Then I cooked dinner and
cleaned up. I didn’t read as planned but I may be off from work soon so I will catch up on the reading then.

—Slept in until my dog wouldn’t stop nudging me that she needed to go outside

—Ate carb-filled breakfast of pancakes that dh made for our kids

—Went to CVS to get acetaminophen and elderberry and some feminine products for my daughter. Got the last bottle of elderberry

—Washed all of my son’s college bedding after picking him up from campus Friday

—Called my mom to make sure my 84 y/o father did not go to Mass, only to find out Archdiocese of Washington canceled all Masses

—Called my daughter in southern CA to make sure she is ok and has what she needs; she’s living in an off campus apartment with a lease thru June. We decided to she would stay as it is more conducive to online classes than if she came home where five of us are camped out. Thankfully, her roommates also decided to stay so she’s not alone

—Bought super inexpensive ticket for same daughter to fly home at end of May in hopes a summer internship in DC comes through

—Took dogs on long walk

—caught up on the fast moving threads on CC

—read through all the emails/instructions sent home for my two high schoolers who start online instruction tomorrow

@katliamom can I be your friend?! This made me laugh out loud. And reminds me of myself.

The nice thing for us is having both “kids” in HI with us. Sure, we get on each other’s nerves a bit, but at least we are together. We have been driving around the neighborhood, playing an online game and cooking together and doing a lot of hanging around together.

S is also studying for his professional engineering exam, which he may or may not be able to take, depending on how things evolve — date is in about a month and it will require a plane trip.

Thanks for the video suggestions, @emilybee.

My Day:

Woke at 3am tossed and turned and worried about my S
Checked my phone and sent a few texts to family overseas who are on Lockdown
Could not get back to sleep so took my temperature ( @CottonTales !)
Checked CNN & DailyMail and tried to get back to sleep
Eventually fell back to sleep around 6am woke at about 9:30am
Got up, made coffee and called family overseas
Called a few friends to figure out how they are getting their kids home during Finals Week
Took my temperature again
Ordered food online at Costco (delivery in four days!!!)
Made breakfast and more coffee
Spoke to S - he’s overwhelmed, worried and stressed and has three finals this week!
Took my temperature again and went out to pick up masks and gloves
Came home, made dinner had a glass of wine, and now, here I am back on CC!

S1 canceled his planned trip to visit us.

S2 canceled his planned trip to visit us.

Friend postponed her DH’s 70th birthday party from 4/18 to 7/18.

DH and I played Trivial Pursuit and got each other laughing hard.

My big plans for tomorrow: Convert my recipe index box to a loose-leaf notebook. Exciting stuff, I know.

And a friend I was planning to see in person next week has agreed to just have a phone call tomorrow.

Went to work today, where precautions were implemented to minimize contact. The place is now closed, as of the end of the day. Sad, but necessary and not surprising.

I am super impressed with those who were productive.

My day went like this- Waffles for breakfast and sliced apples which my DS (age 12) didn’t notice at first and then a five-minute argument how they were still perfectly edible after sitting on the counter for 20 minutes. I finally won the debate by pointing out that I am not out to poison him as burials are expensive, and we don’t have life insurance for him (but if he keeps it up, I might need to take out a policy).

I then worked on distracting my DD20 about the genuine possibility she does not return to her residential school and might miss out on prom and graduation. Somehow this quickly slid into her getting out all the crafts. My table is littered with gems right now. Enter at my dining room your own risk. (Also watch for all the legos my son leaves around like foot landmines.)

As for myself, I spent way too much time on CC and FB. I am pretty sure I pointed to the food that the kids could make themselves for dinner, and I am going to pretend like I don’t know my DS is awake even though I told him to go to bed 35 minutes ago.

Only two more weeks to go… Someone, please pass the wine.

Planted 4 trees and a bunch of smaller stuff. Uffff…
Realizing that all restaurants might be shut soon, assembled a care package for little kid with supplies sufficient to keep her and her BF in chicken soup and scrambled eggs for at least a week. BF is a techie with an empty fridge. He eats company food… if that is off, he will be eating at her “restaurant.”
Shoot. He has a dog. Need to ping then to order the pooch a bag of food. Now!

I don’t know how to be any other way than productive. I thrive on a plan and activities. It’s my sanity and probably why I like some of the accountability of a thread like this!

FInished all my planned activities yesterday except I wanted to take down all the lighted candles from my windows which I usually do when spring arrives on the calendar.

Today’s Planned Activities:

  • take H to an outpatient surgical appt - here now!
  • get H settled at home when he’s done
  • make sure H has some food to easily grab
  • go into work as long as H is stable to be left. No thanks to my university department who has not announced any work alternative plans - annoying.
  • long walk after work.
  • take those lighted candles down!
  • enjoy a little evening tv and surfing time

@abasket

Good luck to your husband.

I have no set plans for today except walking the dogs. But there is alway laundry!

I’ll do my bike and yoga.

Tomorrow I have a “date” for lunch with my cousin on FaceTime.
