A levels Grading system

How are we graded in A level. I am from Cambridge board cie.org.uk
How does one gets Merit or Distinction.

A, B, C, D, E, and U. Of which A is the highest posssible grade and E the lowest. U stands for ungraded, which is a euphemism for…‘FAIL’

‘Merit’ and ‘Distinction’ are used in the AEAs, The Advanced Extension Awards. They replaced the ‘S’ papers.

Well what are Advanced Extension Awards, ae there also in Cambridge board.

AEAs are extra optional papers taken at the end of year 12 or 13 - they require no extra knowlege than A level, but you need to be able to think to a level above A level and apply the knowlege you have to unfamiliar questions. The very top people in the country will take them. Sometimes they are included in Cambridge as part of an offer, e.g. AA + merit AEA

I don’t think CIE offers AEA. AEA is only for UK students, apparently.

Yes, AEAs are only available in the UK. However, one might still be able to sit for the AEA subjects offered by Edexcel since Edexcel has an international arm.
For AQA, OCR and CCEA, highly unlikely
