and all these RD threads with these cool formats - how do you know how to do those?

She’s absolutely right. My first only took six.

“Maybe you could ask a question about painting. I haven’t seen that topic lately. Something about rollers versus brushes might be good. We could call them “Pathways” for simplicity’s sake.”

You mean, you mean … I can say “I know it’s not professional (and I DO always like to seem professional) but I prefer the Sponge over rollar or brush. What does everyone think is the right Path?” and that would be a legitimate serious inquiry worthy of a thread?

Wow! That could be easy! This is SO exciting!

I think you should have a thorough (note: THOROUGH, not “thought” or “through”) discussion about the Wagner Power Painter* and how it transformed the lives of everyday Americans. That’s a new thread I would read.

*I think it might have been invented by T.I.T.S. engineers.

Well, I was just thinking that snake handling is an EC you don’t hear much about.

But I just finished painting. Does that mean I need to BUY some kind of automatic painter before I can start a thread?

No, you could ask for advise, or make comments about one you have seen, or give your opinion on why you feel power painting is the correct pathway to take on the home-decor road of life.

I think that one can make hay with painting as an EC, especially at the College of the Ozarks.

greydad, now all your posts say #36, but at least you ARE a junior member!

GreyDad, a thought just came to mind (no comments there, please):

Why would you even have STARTED painting without asking for sage and storied advise on CC, particularly on this thread or on any thread where the ivies are discussed ad nauseum? What the h*** were you thinking? Or quite obviously, you were NOT thinking (you were painting.).

No problem, GreyDad. You thought I was the administration? Uh oh, I could do some real damage with that cover, BUT I WON"T. And I hope everyone noticed that I didn’t gossip by PM, just welcomed the newbie. Sorry to freak you out by sending you a Private Message, but hazing isn’t allowed so we have to just settle on what crumbs they give us. Feel free to apply anything you might vaguely recall from the 60’s, realizing that none of us will ever remember what you said 20 minutes ago but some hold grudges for a few years if you insult: their core values, their presidential candidate, their kid’s EC, the religion they left behind, or as Garland so aptly realized, their self-chosen Pathway to ensure best college outcomes.

paying3tuitions: So I’ve heard! I guess since I’ve gotten my promotion I need to get serious and consider myself (dare I say it?) an official member of CC! (there! I’m starting to learn the abbreviations!)

My question is: Should I now consider posting and reading to be more important then work and family and home? Is my wife going to understand as I start to earn less money and pay less attention to her and the house gets to be a mess as I ignore the chores and errands?

fencersmother: Well, this is all new to me and I didn’t realize that such a valuable resource existed. I’ll surely know for the future not to do anything without consulting the Wise Ones who have come before me.

mathmom: I just feel SO privileged to be in correspondence with so many Senior Members! (gladmom - we might have to correspond privately until we become official “Members”)

Grey, this is the new millennium: put your wife to work at a second job, and things should be hunky-dorey for you and yours.

ducking for cover from all the cyber-thrown knives

Well … she already has a full time job and works part time and raised (and STILL raises) the kids all on her own AND has a full time position contributing to CC.

So I think I’ll pass on that suggestion.

GreyDad: We need to communicate by posting to get our post counts up.

Revered Members: If GreyDad did start a thread about painting, wouldn’t it have to be on the Parents Cafe? If Greydad started a thread on Cafe, would it knock out his zero? I know that posts there don’t count.

GreDad

You can’t think of one education related topic to start a thread on? How about how badly the public schools shortchanged your gifted children? You could entitle it, “Am I the only one with truly gifted kids?” That might stir up some opportunities.

Yah, really…how to jack up that thread count. I put in my time in boot camp, helping kids on SAT preparation threads. I got no sleep the night before any of those little quizzies they took on Saturdays. My, how I suffered.

I stopped chiming in on my alma mater’s thread because I didn’t think I was deterring potential students. My own kids banned me from their schools’ threads. I hear you can get a lot of points posting on the threads for future doctors and lawyers. Or you can go to Ivy threads to rave about LAC’s, or vice-versa.

I need advice from parents right away! I can’t talk to other kids my age, because none of them are speaking to me, and my parents are, like, the most clueless people on earth! (My dad is a minister. Nuff said.)

I am a HS junior who plans to attend Harvard in two years. (I know I will get in, because I have great grades and I am sure I will be able to get 2400 on the SATs superscored after a few retakes. And Harvard has already sent me a recruitment letter, and everyone says that people like me belong there, even people who say they hate Harvard. Plus, I’m male, and not Asian.) I am planning to triple-major in Finance, Chinese, and Women’s Studies (because it’s really easy on the GPA, and I figure that way I will get to meet girls).

Neway, ever since I was 4, my dream has been to be an investment banker. You know that ad on TV with the stupid kid running around with a towel on his shoulders, and they say “No one ever grew up wanting to be Moneyman”? Not true. I did. You would too if you saw the shabby clothes my parents wear, and had to drive around in their 20-year-old car.

So, when I get my i-banking internship from Harvard, should I go with JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs? Which one is more prestigious? Do I have to apply to Merrill Lynch or Citicorp as a safety? What if one of them makes me an offer before my Goldman Sachs call-back?

And, like, should I maybe go in a different direction, and get an internship with some small hedge fund in California? I don’t know what their names are – that’s how prestigious they’re not – but I hear people there make boocoo dollars. Plus, you are actually allowed to speak to the partners, and you don’t have to put a paper bag over your head if they want to have sex with you. (I made up my mind when I was 9 that I was going to save myself for an i-banking partner, or at least a managing director.) And you don’t have to get supervised by Trading Associates, like at the big banks. I also hear you only have to work 90 hours a week there (plus face-time, of course). So maybe that would be better??? IDK!!!

Finally, how many Ivies should I get accepted to in order to impress the people at Goldman Sachs? Does Cornell even count? Can I get accepted at any of them more than once? I figure with 2400 SATs and 10-11 Ivy acceptances, maybe I won’t even have to worry about the bag!

Yes, gladmom is right, parent’s cafe posts don’t count. So may I suggest that greydad start a thread on painting dorm rooms? Then it can probably stay on the parents forum - because it has to do specifically with college issues. Just like this thread. Or not.

jhs: Just reading your post made me tired.

binx: What a great idea! I hope that GreyDad is paying attention.
