JHS, oh yes. Surely. What did you post again?

mathmom - forgive me if I missed it somewhere in the 760++ posts - which granite did you select?

Back to the OP, who hasn’t really had her question answered. The choices were A or B. Go with A.(As are always better than Bs)

There, now Garland, I have a much more serious question. What pathetic excuses are you and I going to come up with to hang around CC, where the people are wittier than anybody I meet for real. What is the correct PATHWAY to life after CC? (Unless my S lets me move into his grad school apartment with him so I can continue to make sure he picks the right courses, the right friends, and the right girlfriends. In that case, I’ll need to stay on here to continue to gather information for him so he can make good decisions.)

Graduation Party in the Parent Cafe for parents matriculating from College Confidential?

Which granite? Not telling!

But it’s BEE YOOO TI FUL. :)

It takes years of work to get to 6,500 posts. And, then you discover that after Senior Member, there are no more promotions. Life is never the same after that.

Ow, sac, I’ll have to think about that.

Meanwhile, Northern Exposure was probably my favorite series of all time, right about till it jumped the shark with the Bubble guy. i really, really hated him. I knew all his lines before he said them; I knew he was going to pull out the hoary “canary in a coal mine” line about people with his stupid made-up “condition” before he did, but, anyway, before that, they had some lovely, lovely moments .

The one with Chris’s Northern Lights Sculpture at the end was simply sublime.

Looks like I’m not going to get to do a mazurka with Carolyn, even virtually. [sigh]

carolyn

Isn’t there a Supreme High Commander or anything?!

Gaaahh!! I’ve wasted the last 2 years of my life!! Oh, well.

I had no idea… I might have to get out now, while I’m young.

I just got here! Is it over already?

Um I am thinking that JHS is one of US! A grown up!

My daughter encourages me to be on her school’s thread here so I will stay off her school’s Class of 2012 facebook group.

“But honey, that is why it is an open group. So everyone can read it.” hover, hover, hover…

I have promised not to post anything on the facebook page. And I didn’t mean to “friend” anyone on the facebook page but there was this boy from China who looked so young and had a question that I definitely knew the answer to, and when he asked me to be his friend after I answered his question in a pm, how could I say no? (I think I have five or six “friends” on facebook now, one scouting adult friend, one church friend, two or three relatives and the Chinese boy. I am getting very popular there.)

Well, my kids solved that one by banned me from even having a facebook account, so I don’t. And I am a college professor so one has been available for years!

They don’t encourage me to be on CC but they tolerate it as the simplest solution to their problem: How do keep mommy occupied so she leaves us and our private things alone. It seems to be working.

So I will go on and post a burning question: I have path A and path B, I must say, with admirable results, so how do I get my kids to call everyday because I’ve done so much for them?

And should I do the same for grad schools? I’m I too much of a helicopter? I really think I’d like to be a helium balloon. Which path should I follow?

BTW: My kids have violadad’s girl beat: Although they have the same dad one is half New Guinean Islander/half from a South American equitorial tribe and the other is half Romanof/ and half child of Poseidon. Which one has better chances in law school? in med school? And how should I write the essays for them without playing the race card or crassly celebrity dropping. Ideas? Anyone?

Mythmom, why choose? Why not jsut go for both. With that background, no question they will get full rides in both programs. If I were you, I would go pick out my retirement home and book a few round the world cruises now.

There’s a school I’ve heard about in Timbuktu. They’ve been wanting to keep this quiet because they just don’t want to deal with all of that frantic activity the popular schools have to deal with by being so desirable, but they really are considered to be the BEST medical AND law school in the universe. And get this: They’re looking to diversify and I heard (I can’t guarantee that this part is true) that they have NO alumni from the Romanof or Poseidon lines and are desperate to gain that prestige (while also remaining off the radar, so you won’t find this tidbit posted anywhere.) You can thank me later.

Unfortunately, they are, of course, over-populated with New Guineans and South Americans from equitorial tribes, so you’ll have to deal with the disappointment of the one who doesn’t make it. Oh! By the way, they have a huge endowment and offer free shuttle flights back and forth. (Only once a month though, so you can forget about those weekend visits. And they don’t get good Skype reception, so that would make it a tough decision.)

BTW, I’m confused by how all of those halfs add up. Inquiring minds want to know.

I’d much rather be a helium balloon over a helicopter. Does it make your voice sound funny? If I keep eating at the vigil I’ll turn into a blimp!

I have only read the first 28 pages of this thread, but so many of you have gotten off topic…I’m going to jump right in with something really important.
Now here is something that will save you some time…

My S is a musician and several posters have suggested he have his talent evaluated to see if he is maybe “just a big fish in a small pond.” People, I have known my S for 18 years, and he is definitely NOT A FISH.

Now, I could understand the confusion if I had said he plays bass, which could be confused with a (wide-mouthed) bass, but I said he plays bassoon!
This obsession with fish is not helpful, nor time saving. Build a bridge and get over it. :)

Why don’t you tutor him to make him a fish? Isn’t that a hook/URM?

mythmom- I originally highjacked this thread for the sole purpose of seeking input from the vast pool of know-it-alls that inhabit these forums. My results have been minimally successful.
My posts are not counted. The numbers are of course approximate, as the thread is still active. They do however suggest some specific trends that would be statistically applicable to any thread (and therefore any question one poses). Take that it consideration for your own situation.

Perhaps one of the “numbersdads” can analyze and chart the info and post it as another meaningless sticky.

Having said that, I’ll address your question.

As an offspring of a god, the royalty/deity combo should have the historic edge in chances. And, if the child is male, the Romanov bloodline contains a strong recurring tendency to hemophilia, suggesting a medical hook, signifying a far greater probability of success in the healing professions. And having swum in Poseidon’s gene pool, his godlike abilities should get him great grades and a near perfect MCAT.

Godlike abililties are often no match for lawyer wannabees. He shouldn’t even bother with the LSATS .

Oh, whine, whine, whine violadad. And grandiosity is not a hook. Sorry.

Mythmom-
Half child of Poseidon? We want details! I thought only David Blaine could hold his breath that long. Greydad, what are your thoughts about this?? ;)
