A Meta-thread to save us all time

When you do, Harriet, I certainly hope you will put a decal on your car and a flag on your driveway so everyone knows the prestige you have attained. It wouldn’t hurt to wear a t-shirt with the CC blue and gray every place you possibly can. Like the gym, and grocery shopping, and black-tie weddings.

Pizzagirl, if you’re actually Classified as a Germophobe, you can apply for Special Needs Housing. Go straight to the Dean. Now. If you wait, you will catch something.

I already bought the decal, the flag, and two shirts, one for dress-up and one for the grocery store. I have an extra decal that I can slap on my evening bag in a pinch.

“and demand to know why he did not get a gold star in Map Folding, and also remind him that all is lost if he does not pull his grade in Handwashing up to at least a silver.”

Your priorities are just, well, I don’t know what they are. I thought I could offer you help and advice for the benefit of your son, but I was mistaken. If your child hasn’t received a gold star in Map Folding (when it obviously wasn’t his fault. Note the loopsidedness of his accolades.) and you haven’t had a conference involving the teacher, the principal, the superintendent, as well as your attorney and a member of the press, then there’s nothing more to be said. I’m so done with you.

Withdrawal is not a safe admissions strategy.

Forgot to add other item of advice to violadad’s D:

Yes, once you have been accepted EA to AnyIvy, it is FINE to drop any AP course of your choice. The adcoms understand that you weren’t really interested in it, except for admissions purposes.

Wait, zoosermom, I think I have a solution. If Junior has any published artwork from his PreK fingerpainting forays, or if Mr or Mrs. Welsh might perhaps, just maybe, be national celebs involved in a very public divorce, I think there just might be a hook they and Junior can use. Most colleges of any repute, I’m told, will over -look that unfortunate silver star in Handwashing, provided you agree to appear semi-nude in a Victoria’s Secret commercial, or you or your DH will agree to do a voice-over for a presidential candidate.

However, there are still slots open for the likes of Junior or the OP’s child, should they decide to go to a noteworthy but underpublicized LAC in northern Minnesota.

::::sobbing::::

But First Grade is his dream school! He’s been wearing a First Grade shirt since he was in diapers. “First Grade” was his first word. DH and I both went to First Grade - he’s a ** DOUBLE LEGACY! **

I’m devastated.

Harriet are you taking notes and otherwise paying attention to all the free advice you’re getting here from world-renowned experts in every field in the entire world?

Sorry, just taking a phone call from a friend of a friend’s friend’s sister, who knows everything about elite admissions because one of her nieces would have gotten into HYPSMWASDOODAH except for her essays and one of her nephews got a really personal rejection letter from Berkeley. Anyway she said that SOME schools “superscore” handwashing. Has anyone heard about this?

She also suggested that he opt for hand wiping instead. Apparently a lot of schools accept this now.

“Anyway she said that SOME schools “superscore” handwashing. Has anyone heard about this?”

Are you just so lazy that you can’t check the individual websites? At least call, for heaven’s sake!

Some studying Zen might say path A is not A and path B is not B. In their not being they are the same. In which case neither path is correct or wrong, or path A is B (not A) and path B is A (not B). I don’t know what I am saying but it seems to fit this thread.

Also, I meant to ask, does anyone know the hack for CC admins? I really can’t survive another minute if I don’t know my Member Score.

ya know, in my family we didn’t put such a premium on saving time

sometimes all this emphasis on saving time just makes me question why you all are so obsessed with hurrying your kids

wasting time worked fine for our fmaily

my Ds and Ss got into great schools without all this hype about saving time

sheesh

Anyone know whether my D will be able to have Slow Cooker in the dorm at UTasmania?

“But First Grade is his dream school! He’s been wearing a First Grade shirt since he was in diapers. “First Grade” was his first word. DH and I both went to First Grade - he’s a DOUBLE LEGACY!”

HAH! I can top you since not only did my dh and I go to First Grade, so did all of our siblings and all of our parents and grandparents. So if that’s not a lock on first-grade admissions, I don’t know what is. Perhaps I can call the school and put in a good word for you, if you’d like. No, don’t thank me. Just post that you’re setting out food and that will do.

Just to be safe, though, you may want to donate a few boxes of crayons and a few boxes of tissues. Not that I’m advocating buying your way in, but it couldn’t hurt.

“Are you just so lazy that you can’t check the individual websites? At least call, for heaven’s sake!”

Now, now. There are liberal arts First Grades where they give you the soap and provide a towel for you to wash your hands, and there are university First Grades where you’re expected to wash your hands on your own. It’s not that one is better, they are just for different tastes.

Well, I called the Dean and reminded her that S2 not only is a double parental legacy, but he also has sibling legacy, since D and S1 are First Grade Alumni too. Also I got the 64-color box of crayons and wrote our last name on it, because I’ve heard that if you want to be considered as a development legacy, there had better be something with your name on it, though maybe that was a building. Or maybe it was just building blocks. I forget. I’m a little worked up here.

I’m not sure legacy is good enough anymore for first grade. Are you a development admit? The Welsch Play-Doh Table has a nice ring.

Path A? Path B? Even C and D? Those are all passe!

I cannot believe that CC’ers are still doing that tired old dance. What a joke.

I mean come on…haven’t you heard about The Queen of Hearts Ultra Advanced Professional College Counseling, Inc. My D was accepted ED to the U of Wonderland on a full ride–in fact they are paying her an extra $50,000 just to attend. She is going to be their poster-child–because her appearance is quite “unusual.” (Sorry, I cannot give more details for fear of compromising her identity.)

(BTW: U of Wonderland isn’t a university and is not in Wonderland–but that’s another thread–and its motto is “this aint no meritocracy.”) She is not really very excited about matriculating there, but it is what she was told that she always wanted most in life.

AP’s, itidarods, digiridoos, pirates–who needs them. I say that all those years of being and nothingness have paid off in spades–umm-I mean hearts.

The guiding principle of TQOHUAPCCI is “all ways are my ways.” Any adcoms who get in the way of the desired outcome will be swiftly dispatched by a “hands-on” onsite “off with their head” trained counselor-cum-ninja.

The only catch is that one parent of the student-applicant must have been a unicorn in a past life–and it is extremely difficult to collect the DNA sample if you don’t own your own time machine. Still, it’s worth the effort and if you know the right people (and the password–PM me for more info) you can always get access to the one at MIT.

Really–CC is for dinosaurs. I’m always amazed by the lack of any substantive knowledge on this site–I only come here for the laughs…
;)

So, thanks for all the ha ha ha’s!

This may be a somewhat delicate question but if the Inuit mermaid is possibly a hemaphrodite? She might be eligible for Deep Springs two year program, at least half the time.

Oh, that is SUCH a hook! I’m so jealous. Does anyone know any way I could work on getting hermaphroditic credentials of my own? It’s worth it if I get to Harvard, because at Harvard there’s never such a thing as a bad hair day or an annoying roommate or a hangnail or anything other than flowers, hearts and roses all day long. It said so in USNWR, therefore it must be true.
