It was quite unexpected, happened quite suddenly, but he’s adorable…

His name is Cody. He is 20 mos. old. He is a … Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!
A few of you may recall that we lost our precious Cavalier to heart disease 2 years ago, just shy of his 10th birthday. Today, out of the blue, we got a call form a neighbor who was babysitting Cody. I won’t get into the whole story of why he is (99% likely) available for placement, but they asked if I wanted to come see him. Well, thats all it took…

He is lying at my feet as I type. Such a sweetie. He looks like he might not be a purebred (his face looks a bit more like a springer spaniel) and he’s on the big side, but so was our previous cavalier.

We will foster parent him for a few days (got that pesky college tour trip coming up shortly) so he goes temporarily back to the neighbor. Assuming the owners are sure they want to place him, he moves in here permanently in about 10 days. I’ll get all his papers, medical records, etc then. He appears to be well taken care of (well groomed, clean teeth, sweet disposition-- unlike some cc’ers )

So, like Berura’s “Karma” who appeared out of nowhere, so too Cody seems to be manna from heaven… He’s made himself quite at home. He already poo-ed on the new off-white carpet… Ahhh, life with a dog again.

I LOVE the King Charles Spaniels. You lucky dog! Oh, and the people, too. Give him a hug for me. My giant beast would love a Spaniel to play with, but H says “no more animals right now”.

MOWC, was that before your s came home or after?
How would you walk all these dogs on your crutches??? That would be a challenge. Hope your leg is healing well. We will hit the slopes for a few days (hopefully not literally) before the college visits. So is it reasonable for s to choose a school based on the fact that he can go skiing in the morning and to the beach in the afternoon?? Classes? Papers? exams? what’s that??

jym, congrats on the new puppy!!! When I started reading your post, I read “new baby” then “20 months” and thought OMG a college student came home with a surprise 20mo. old baby!!! It’s amazing how many thoughts can go through your head in the space of time it takes to read a sentence.:)

Thanks, Berurah!!! How’d you get the second color to so closely match his coloring??? It looks sorta like the brown part of his fur.
Sorry if my typing skills re worse that usual (if that is ossible) but I am doing a required belly rub (… of the DOG…) with one hand and typing with the other…

"rurah-- looking forward to comparing doggie stories. Its just like talking about the kids whern they were young-- poo-poo accidents, tickling bellies, etc. At lesat no college tuition to deal with, though I do see obedience school in our future. Do they require the FAFSA?

Congratulations on the new addition to the family, jym. As I sit here at the computer, our Corgi is laying at my feet. She’s sweet, funny, neurotic and loves us unconditionally. We always know that she’ll be waiting to greet us at the door when we come home … give her a ball or a frisbee and she’ll be busy for hours. Have fun!

Congrats on the new addition, jym!!! My friend and neighbor’s dog and one of our dog’s best buddies is the King Charles down the street! They are great, spunky dogs with personality plus. Enjoy, enjoy!

Thanks latetoschool, roshke, splashmom, coronax, mkm and everyone. I don’t want to get too excited, since I have to give him back for a week while we are gone, and they could change their minds.
I’ll keep everyone posted. Cross your fingers

Congratulations! My favorite childhood memories are the “new puppy” days. Got this recently from a fellow dog lover.

To! All Non-Pet Owner s Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:
They live here. You don’t.
If you don’t want their hair on your clothes, stay off the
furniture. (That’s why they call it "fur"niture.)
I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
To you, it’s an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who
is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn’t speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

Eat less

Don’t ask for money all the time
3 Are easier to train

Normally come when called

Never ask to drive the car

Don’t hang out with drug-using friends

Don’t smoke or drink

Don’t have to buy the latest fashions

Don’t want to wear your clothes

Don’t need a gazillion dollars for college, and…

If they get pregnant, you can sell their children

As I gather more information, I have discovered that Cody’s “real” name was “Colby”. He doesn’t seem to know the difference. Any “votes” for the preferred name??
And sushi and Primetime mon!! Thanks!
He is a charmer. I bought him some doggie toys which he stuffs in his mouth (2 at a time) and carries around with him. We had a nice game of “fetch” today. He tolerated it for about 10’ til he decided he’s rather take a snooze. Ahhh… a dogs life…

Love your lists, OhMother! #11 is too funny.

I’ll have to throw my vote for Cody, jym. (IF) we ever get another dog, (I’ve) already picked out the name Cody, as well. I haven’t told my family, because I’m the holdout on getting another dog. If they knew I had already picked out a doggy name, they’d see that as a kink in the armour and use it against me.
