The problem is that you generally don’t have enough 2pt opportunities in a game to have a high probability of the odds working in your favor. In the NBA you can throw up 30 3’s in a game.
And that extra point in the NBA rarely affects strategy in a major way, whereas in the NFL it often means the difference between needing a field goal or a touchdown, which makes you play very differently depending on what you need.
I think former Baltimore Ravens OL and mathematics genius John Urschel came up with a formula that stated that if a team could make 38% of its 2-pointers, it would be worth it. I think teams with good running quarterbacks should be doing it all the time. I thought that at one point in the season that the Bears were going to be doing it after every TD, right after the game where Cody Parkey hit the upright 4 times in one game.
In Chicago this was the big debate and those stats were stated that going for the 2 pts would be more benificial then going for the 1 from a statistical standpoint. When Parker did his cool post trick every local ESPN analysts had some sort of Stat showing why in the world would a team even try for the extra point… Like ever again… Lol…
Well since I couldn’t score tickets that made sense, time to go walk the dog to Wrigley field to see the Bears ice sculpture before it melts! (I am checking stub hub etc at like 1:00 pm just to see if prices drop)
That was a horrible, gruesome injury to Cowboys player Hurns. I thought it was classy of the Seahawks that practically their entire bench came over to offer him encouragement before he was taken off.
So in true Bears fashion. If you think about their season, they could be easily 14/2. Most around Chicago would say if it wasn’t for the refs cheating, or aliens they would be 16/0 :)).
The one team that actually scares me is the Eagles with Nick Foles. But again I thought they had absolutely no chance against the Rams.
@Knowsstuff homer talk of course, but the Bears are a dropped interception, a missed FG in OT, a half-yard from a tying TD on the last play of the game, and nervous hands by the backup QB in an OT game from being 16-0.
Wow - I was about to turn off the Ravens/Chargers game but it got very interesting at the end! I was surprised Baltimore didn’t put Flacco in for 4th quarter.
