@ChoatieMom , is it possible the AGI doesn’t match their records?
My D just got her paper check. FYI, on front of envelope was a line that said that if addressee is dead to check the box on the envelope and put in mail. I know checks to deceased individuals was addressed earlier so this may have already been posted.
DH hasn’t filed 2019 yet. The AGI was taken from our 2018 tax return. So, who knows? Both of our Get My Payment screens say we qualify, so I guess we’ll just assume it will come in check form.
(We only have one bank account and all tax refunds have successfully gone to that account for years.)
According to the USPS Informed Delivery website our check will be delivered today. Hopefully the mail carrier doesn’t put it in the wrong mailbox. (It’s happened before.)
@TomSrOfBoston This is why I love informed delivery! We have had issues with mail being left in other boxes, and some of my neighbor, especially the younger ones, don’t check their mail regularly.
A month ago, informed delivery showed a replacement credit card and a rent check from out tenant, as well as 5 other pieces of mail. Go to my box, which is a bank of locked mailboxes as we live in a townhome community. I find no mail in my box, so leave a note for the carrier. He insist he delivered all mail, but says he will look for it. After two weeks, my next door neighbor brings all 7 pieces over to me as they were in her box. Mail carrier says he has no idea how that happened; I do, her box is directly above mine!
Curiously, what date does the IRS show for your check; today or earlier? Trying to get a sense of the date shown on the IRS site for my daughter.
Thanks for the tips on entering bank account info for direct deposit, I was just able to do that.
- married, filing joint
- filed for 2019, got refund, applied refund to 2020 estimated tax
- used 0 for dollar amount of refund
Deceased MIL got a paper check delivered here to our address. She was line one addressee indicating deceased, husband was line two addressee indicating executor.
My sister just got a check for my mom, made out to “X, deceased.”
If they know she is deceased, why did they send it?
I missed the earlier discussion on this–anyone know what the legal situation is? I mean, I know they want the check back…
D’s check arrived on Saturday. When she was checking the site early on, she was not using the right AGI. So, kept seeing the message “unable to determine…”. When I checked the site on her behalf, I didn’t have to input the AGI at all.
@snowball The check was dated 5/1/2020 which was the date the IRS system said it was to be mailed.
@garland I saw this https://www.marketwatch.com/story/if-your-dead-relative-received-a-stimulus-check-you-should-return-it-to-the-feds-mnuchin-says-2020-04-29 but no official guidance. Looks like a real cluster.
Thanks, @HouseChatte – I told her to sit on it a while. It makes like no sense that they say they know she’s deceased, but then still send it out.
^^^ Husband says we’re absolutely framing his mother’s check and displaying it as a souvenir.
A woman on “Sixty Minutes” said her husband got the Informed Delivery notice of the check but it never showed up. ![]()
Ours was in the mailbox todayand already deposited at the bank.
If anyone has an issue with USPS, don’t bother complaining. It will never get resolved.
While on the IRS site it shows a direct deposit date of 5/6, it has showed pending in our account for days. While I thought it might go through earlier, my guess is now it will not be until Wednesday. It is almost there!
I would be jumping up and down if my daughter’s check actually gets forwarded to her new address; she moved 4 weeks ago, before she was able to log in and change to direct deposit. I don’t really think that will happen. My guess is she will not see this money until well after she files for 2019. USPS, prove me wrong!
My daughter got her direct deposit with the first wave of people. She moved the first weekend of March. Her former landlady called her that the IRS had sent her a letter to her old address (she filed for 2019 at her old address). I told her it was a letter informing her that she had received the stimulus money.
@snowball, hoping your daughter gets her check! Soon!
May 6 and here it is, whew! thanks for sharing this process with me!
(now to send it off to the kids–they can really use it right now.)
Yay! I got the stimulus check today too AND the SBA EIDG one too!
Got ours today too. One less thing to keep track of.
We got ours too ?
