A Really Stupid Question

OK, so while working on my college essays I came across a “moral dilemma”.

I want to include the phrase “closet nerd”…

As in, "Being the closet nerd that I am, I began to pore over journal articles with riveting titles such as “BMI and Physical Function in Older Women.”

The question is–is “closet nerd” an offensive term? Like I really don’t want my essay to be looked down upon because of one stupid phrase, but I can’t figure out if it’s offensive or not (I even googled it to check!).

Thanks guys.

offensive?..i think not

Not at all. Who would it offend, nerds or closets?

…Offensive?

If any college employs people who are offended by the word ‘nerd’, you don’t want to go there anyway. ;)

I thought it was somewhat clever. :)

I’d use the term, but well I’m flamboyantly nerd-ish. :D

sigh lol, i mean like “closet nerd” implies people in the closet, which implies gay people “in the closet”, which could be offensive if some people don’t like the terminology “coming out of the closet”

i swear, i’m not insane lol. judging by the responses though, i guess i looked too far into this.

Well, I immediately thought of “coming out of the closet” so I don’t think you looked too far into it. BUT I don’t think it’s offensive…

^ Hey, I caught it too, that’s why I said “flamboyantly”…

Uhg, I guess I have an odd sense of humor.

I use that term to descibe me all the time, because people don’t realize that I am kinda a nerd. But then again, I am “out of the closet”, in the other sense, so I don’t know if my opinion matters.

haha no tubachick i got you, i just didnt see your response until i posted mine.

^ Ok, good. I was worried…

:)
