OK, so while working on my college essays I came across a “moral dilemma”.

I want to include the phrase “closet nerd”…

As in, "Being the closet nerd that I am, I began to pore over journal articles with riveting titles such as BMI and Physical Function in Older Women.

The question is–is “closet nerd” an offensive term? Like I really don’t want my essay to be looked down upon because of one stupid phrase, but I can’t figure out if it’s offensive or not (I even googled it to check!).

sigh lol, i mean like “closet nerd” implies people in the closet, which implies gay people “in the closet”, which could be offensive if some people don’t like the terminology “coming out of the closet”

i swear, i’m not insane lol. judging by the responses though, i guess i looked too far into this.

I use that term to descibe me all the time, because people don’t realize that I am kinda a nerd. But then again, I am “out of the closet”, in the other sense, so I don’t know if my opinion matters.
