A SAHM frustrations.

@cbreeze – how great that you were able to help your daughter with a nanny! Lucky daughter, lucky grandkids, very generous & thoughtful grandma.

[/you’d be surprised what kids remember, especially feelings]

@HImom If my attempt at quoting above doesn’t work, have patience with me :). I hope you are right about that, and because I am so sensitive about it, I have been trying to reinforce those memories and all the things I did for them when they were little but I have apparently gone overboard, lol. We now have a family joke, where I start this story “Hey, D2, did you know…” and D2 will finish with “Yes, I know you had to stand up and rock me for an hour and a half until I was asleep, then I would sleep for only 30 MINUTES and wake up!, and you would have to do the whole thing again! I know, I know!”.

But both of them really like to sit with me at my computer and look at all of our old photos of our travels and fun trips and activities - they mostly screech and howl at how goofy they think they looked, but we have a fun time. My youngest wants me to print copies of a bunch of them and put them in a photo album for her. She is almost 16, but had never really been interested in looking at our digital photo collection until a few months ago, and didn’t realize the extent of it - and had never even seen most of them!

@conmama My health problems are not seriously debilitating - a mild heart condition (relatively speaking) with a couple of complicating factors, but they have just put limits on what I can do because of horrible fatigue and not being able to drive in unfamiliar places outside my comfort zone because of brain fog caused by my medications. So I’m still able to do a lot of things with them, but not nearly as much as I used to, and they do miss it. Thanks for your kind words. I have a surgery scheduled in a couple of months that might improve or correct the condition so things might change for the better soon.

If anyone can tell me what went wrong with my quote attempt above, I’d appreciate your help :).

My S has very little memory of early events but DOES remember feelings and that he had a pretty happy childhoid and that we always had his back. D has many more memories and strongly remembers feelings.

I can’t do all I used to due to health issues as well. We carry on pretty anyway.

@LeastComplicated You should create some photo books combining your memories and family stories with the family photos. I highly recommend mixbook as I found it the easiest online software to use. They frequently run 50% deals. I’ve used them to great success for some milestone family events.

@doschicos Thanks for that idea! They both have a scrapbook that I started when they were little, and I also started a family scrapbook for our family adventures, but I kinda fell off the scrapbooking train a long time ago - way too time consuming even when I had the energy and enthusiasm to do it. The software idea sounds a lot easier and less time consuming. I’m actually pretty good at photoshop and illustrator, but if mixbook has easy to use templates, it sounds like a better alternative. Thanks again for the info! I’ll look into it.

I have had a plan for many years to make a book with my own illustrations of our funny family stories that I don’t have photos for. I have a journal with a long list of the funny things the kids did or things or the funny things that happened to us over the years. For example one thing on the list is when I took the two girls to a Chinese acrobat show when they were about 6 and 4. Big sis was telling little sis “Don’t worry, D2, don’t be scared of the lion, it’s just a person in a costume - it’s not real!” She felt so grown up and I was impressed at how she was trying to comfort her little sister. But THEN, the lion jumped off the stage and ran right up our aisle, and we just happened to be sitting in aisle seats - with them closest to the aisle. They both screamed like bloody murder and literally both jumped on my head at the same time trying to get away from the lion! I have a perfect image in my head of the two frame illustration - the first with the "There, there, don’t worry scene, and the second with both of them screaming and holding onto my head! That project will take some effort but now is the perfect time to get it done - so thanks for reminding me of that project - I had forgotten about it til we had this conversation!

Lots of Mixbook coupon codes here: https://www.retailmenot.com/view/mixbook.com

I haven’t used them but am tempted to give them a try - I’ve used Snapfish, Shutterfly and iPhoto.

@LeastComplicated Those kind of stories and photos would make priceless book and something you could probably do while relaxing in bed or a lounge chair. The books would become the type of mementos that future grandchildren would cherish as well. A good way to put the family lore and history down somewhere.

@abasket I did a quite thorough investigation of many, many of the online companies before I undertook my projects and Mixbook jumped out at me as the best combo of fairly intuitive software and plenty of features and options.

Thanks @abasket and @doschicos !!!

@abasket @doschicos Oh no! I just looked at the Mixbook site. I feel like a kid in a candy store. So many choices. I’m predicting I’ll end up with a few books with several different themes!

@LeastComplicated

do it like this:

[.quote] put the text here [./quote]

but without the periods  and then you get:

Got it! Thanks @soccerguy315 ! I did a search on CC and found some instructions, but I obviously didn’t grasp the concept from the other explanation.

Speaking of mixbook (I have used snapfish to create books for our recent adventures), is there an easy way to scan old photos to digital? The thought of using our printer/scanner to individually scan photos is rather daunting.

Maybe a new thread about scrap booking and photos may be in order

I was never good at the SAHM thing. My partner stays home bc he works for himself and PT, so it works better. When I was single and worked, I still did all the school mom stuff though. It’s not possible if your job isn’t flexible though:(
