We wear slippers in the house. DH and I both have LLBean slippers. We love them. I know others haven’t had good luck with them, but I think I’m on my 5th year with the same pair. They never get worn outdoors.
Outdoor shoes are left in the mud room.
Should one really expect more than a few years out of shoes that are worn regularly anyway? Sounds like a useful life to me.
I have not done any recent LL Bean returns. But years ago they were surprisingly tolerant accepting returns, even if just worn out before customer thought they should.
They are still very generous and tolerant, however I personally would not take advantage of that generosity if I felt I had gotten a useful life out of them. There are so few upstanding retailers like LL Bean these days that I’d like to reward them by returning the same generosity that they show their customers. Their service is pretty impeccable and rare. If you call their 800 number or “chat” with them online, they do go out of their way to help you.

All my old Birkenstocks have become indoor sandals. I need the arch support, especially when first getting up in the morning. With wool socks in winter, my feet are warm. At the door, I can slide in quickly. At the back door, I have slip on shoes for compost and trash.
