Abbreviations used on this site

Help, I am relatively new to this site. I’ve noticed a lot of abbreviations being used here and I’d love for you all to define some of them for me. I’ll see someone refer to their DS, or DS1 - I get the gist of it, but what does the abbreviation stand for? Any others you can define would be welcome.

Thank you.

DS stands for dear son. DD is dear daughter. A number after tells us if it is the eldest son, the 2nd son, and so on.

sometimes the first d can stand for something besides dear if we are frustrated with that person. (use your imagination for another d word).

I think there is a sticky note somewhere with abbreviations. DH is hear husband and DW is dear wife.

Thanks. My military oriented self kept coming up with Dependent Son and Dependent Daughter, but that didn’t seem right for this forum. Though technically it’s probably correct :). So here’s another one: HYP

This site isn’t the easiest to use, so I looked for some place that explained abbreviations, but couldn’t find one.

Here’s the “Abbreviations” thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/52585-abbreviation-thread.html

It’s the fifth “stickied” thread from the top, on page one of the Parents Forum.

H=Harvard
Y=Yale
P= Princeton

Harvard-Yale-Princeton.
Sometimes: HYPS, or Harvard-Yale-Princeton-Stanford.
Sometimes: HYPSM, or Harvard-Yale-Princeton-Stanford-MIT.

The grouping is often usedto refer to those particular schools in admissions, and is sometimes used in the general sense to refer to elite, super-selective schools.

Yes, just saw the “stickied thread” thanks!
