About Dual Enrollment

I am about to complete a dual enrollment course. This course is 3 credits and takes place during the summer college semester. If I submit my dual enrollment transcript to my high school, would they give me credit for 1 semester or two semesters?

For reference my school weighs dual enrollment classes as a 5.0 and they are weighted the same as AP classes.

At my children’s HS, if you were planning on taking a summer course, at a CC, for a HS graduation credit, you had to have submitted paperwork to the HS, before taking the course, to get approval from the HS and school district, as well as the CC.

My kids took a History class at the CC. They submitted a request for a transcript from the CC, before finishing the course, and had that transcript submitted to the HS.

Check with your high school to see what the procedures are for your school district.

Agree that it would have been better to get the course approved in advance and to understand how it will appear on your HS transcript. At this point you need to contact your guidance counselor to determine your high school’s policy and procedures regarding dual enrollment classes.

Also, you will be requesting the CC transcript to be sent to the colleges where you apply. The high school wont do that because it’s not their transcript. They just give you credit for taking the course.

Yes, I know my question was that does a one semester college class generally count as a fully year high school credit or does it only count as one semester?

You should ask your question to your HS guidance counselor who can give you the definitive answer. We cannot.

Your high school will know the answer as it is specific to your high school (for the purpose of earning credit toward high school graduation requirements).

Colleges you apply to may have their own interpretations. For example, UCs list 3 semester unit transferable college courses as fulfilling a year of certain a-g subject requirements for frosh admission: Subject requirement (A-G) | UC Admissions

I just asked and they told me that all 3-unit dual enrollment classes are worth 10 high school credits so than means that a college semester course is equal to a full year high school course.

Then that is your answer.
