Hello, I am a current freshmen in high school, my first semester I didn’t need to take any finals because my school was “easy”, however I have transferred to another school in which I have to now take finals at the end of the semester, there is about one month before the semester ends and I am confused.
My question is how and what do you study for finals?
First, find out if the final exam is cumulative, or only covers the material since the midterm.
Next, ask the instructor if there will be any study guide or any tips on what to focus on.
Depending on the scope of the exam, review all the material. Hopefully, you have been keeping all with the work and will only need to review and not re-learn everything. Once you’ve reviewed it all, then focus in on the parts that you have the most trouble remembering. If there is something you don’t understand, try to meet with teacher outside of class to go over it and make sure you understand.
That’s it. It’s just a big test so you prepare for it in basically the same way you prepare for any other test. Again, this process will be much easier if you have been keeping up with the work and not letting things slide.
Thank you so much, in our school we do not have midterms, we just have finals at the end of each semester, finals are all cumulative, by review all the material, do we just review notes, quizzes, tests, homework?
Yes, review any materials you have. If you have a textbook, make sure you review all the units. Ask your teacher about the format of the final - will it be similar to the tests you have taken in what it will ask you to do?
That depends. You study until you feel confident in all the material. It is possible you already feel pretty confident, then you just need a few hours of review. If you have some gaps in your knowledge or are struggling with some concepts. it will take you longer as you must make sure to work through them and get help, if needed. If you do need some help, do this sooner rather than later. Don’t wait until the last minute to ensure that you’re on top of everything.
Another recommendation is to ask the teacher for last year’s final. If they are willing to give it to you, that can be very helpful in figuring out what the content and format of the test will be.
