Check out Ohio University Honours Tutorial College. You take your classes as one on one tutorials and have no general education requirements other than a single English course and have no prerequisites.
You might want to double check this, but that structure can mean a lot of flexibility in what gets covered and at what
It’s good to know these were attractive to your family. Except for St. Olaf, they’re all in the northeast, so it is clear that is a very strong preference.
Can you share what it is about those that were attractive? For instance, Stony Brook is of interest while other SUNY schools (Binghamton, Buffalo, Albany) are not, or UConn and UNH are, while UVT and URI are not, or Brandeis is but not U. of Rochester? I’m having a hard time figuring out what your son’s preferences are beyond geography.
Sorry for the slow response - I was traveling for a few days.
Stony Brook: I know they have a strong math program that focuses on topology and geometry - I’m not opposed to the other schools but not aware of their strengths/weaknesses.
UVT and URI: pretty much the same - just don’t know enough. University of Rochester was just about the distance.
To sum: we’re definitely looking at schools closer to where we live as the first filter, and then the reason for not including some of them is basically ignorance about what they have to offer in terms of math programs.
I was thinking OP might qualify for a scholarship since they’re subject-based. Competing in the math competitions they offer etc. helps but it’s possible to earn the 10k entrance scholarship without doing so.
(Subsequent scholarships then depend on actual performance at the University.)
I was about to say it would be too expensive even with the $10k scholarship until I remembered the prices were in CAD. Even then, it would be a bit of a squeeze
Yeah, it’d take winning a scholarship to make it 45k (+choosing the traditional double&meal plan) but math prowess would be the primary driver there and 9th grade isn’t factored in so it’d really play to OPs strengths.
Worth a try in my opinion.
