Academic Judiciary!!

So I was put on academic judiciary for Cheating. I need advice what I should do
He said
“As a reminder, each student may bring in their own 4 by 6 inch notecard with notes to the final exam.” I brought two index cards because i wasn’t sure what should I do? I have never “cheated” beofer
I thought it be fine because i never had the chance to bring notecards to tests so i thought it didnt matter because big and small hand writing…

It seems like you had a misunderstanding. Generally, when professors say you’re allowed to bring your own notecard with notes to the final exam, they mean only one notecard, not two or more.

Remove the quotes. You didn’t “cheat”, you cheated.

You didn’t ask whether or not your version of the rules was OK, you assumed it was. You brought in more notes than you were allowed. You could have chosen to write or type smaller, but you chose to ignore the rules instead. Doing so gave you an unfair advantage over every single kid who didn’t cheat.

As to what to do, that depends on what it means at your school. Find out. Is there a hearing of some sort? Are you allowed to have help there? Does your past record mean anything? How were you doing in the class?

So, I’m not sure what the real violation was. A 4 X 6 notecard yields 48 square inches of available surface.

Technically, an “index card” as you described it, can be any of a number of sizes, but if we assume you used a typical 3 X 5 card, you had 60 square inches of available surface upon which to write, which was 12 sq. inches more than allowed.

Was 25% more space the source of the problem or did you use two cards of the allowed size for double the benefit?

@JustOneDad I think the problem was that they brought multiple cards, so they had extra room to write more information.

Honestly, I think the rule was stated pretty clearly to me, and if you really weren’t sure about it beforehand, the best decision would have been to ask for a clarification. I don’t think there’s really anything to do at this point except admit you didn’t follow directions and follow through with the judiciary procedures.
