Instead of saying weighted vs unweighted GPAs, my school academic and overall. Which is which?
I’m going to take a guess and say academic GPA only takes into account your core academic classes (Math, science, English, history, and foreign language), while “overall” includes other classes such as PE, electives, arts, etc.
Idk about that but weighted courses are those like ap and honors that add an additional 8 or 10 points to your grade
Correct, although electives in core subjects would be included in the academic GPA.
The weights assigned to Honors/AP courses vary from school to school; there is no consistent formula.
@skieurope what if my school does not calculate weighted GPA? What formula, if any, would I use?
None, unless the college in question (e.g. UC’s) give you a formula to use. Colleges will either uses the unweighted GPA or will reweight according to their own parameters.
