Acceptance Letters

I did a quick search and it seems like some received the admissions packet around March 27 last year.

Use the search function. I see in a quick search that in 2006, people were receiving the acceptance packages on March 31.

Very old (5years) info. NYU mailed out decision so as to ARRIVE on or near April 1. An inexact science to be sure.

^^^I agree…in and about April 1.

I just used the search function and found my OWN post in 2005 when the day my D’s acceptance packet arrived. It was March 30 (even though the letter inside has a date of April 1 on it).

I have a friend who goes to SVA in New York and he said that Tisch drama is weak incomparison to a lot of other schools.

How does someone who attends the School for Visual Arts know a heck of a lot about NYU or Tisch Drama?

I don’t mind if someone thinks the school is weak but I’d rather hear it from someone with first hand experience…or in the theater industry at the least… Not simply from someone who happens to go to a college in NYC (let alone in an entirely different field) :)

Thanks for the info SoozieVT and others:) Im really hoping i get something before March 30. Im going on a trip internationally so i wont be home:/ and it will drive me nuts not to know… hopefully an invite or something soon!:)

philiatous, I have to agree with soozievt! If someone who herself or himself attends Tisch drama and wants to post about what he or she doesn’t like or why he or she wants to transfer, well, bring on the criticism. But for someone who goes to a completely different school in a completely different art area to lob a criticism like that, well, it’s not only unfair, but useless to the good people who use this list to get information.

I personally have heard a lot of criticism levelled at certain BFA programs (both acting and MT) but I have enough good sense to refrain from posting things that I have just heard people who have no firsthand knowledge and actually no expertise at all say! It just seems like bad form to me.

Krisjan, if nothing comes before your trip, do you have any friends who could check your mail for you and email you to let you know if it came and then you could always instruct the friend to open just that piece of mail.

In any case, based on the past, sometimes the letters have arrived anywhere between March 27 and April 1 and so it may come before you leave (I have no knowledge, however, of the dates this year other the usual “about April 1”).

well my family will be staying here, im just so nervous about it i can’t even focus on my trip! i’ll be worrying about if i got in even though whats done is done.i mean i feel really great about my audition, but almost to good to be true…i know sometimes people who think they get in don’t so that keeps going through my brain. blah… but if i was rejected i’d hate to hear that news in europe:/ but yes i’d have a way to find out… Im praying something comes this week though…

Hang in there, krisjan! It’s almost over …

Do anyone know when transfer students find out?

thanks notmamarose im just worried about what to do if i dont get in…but im hoping i do!

Transfer students find out in May.

krisjan, I know how much you want to get in. I don’t know where else you applied but if you can try not to focus too much on any one particular school, the overall results can feel more positive because in the end, you simply need a college where you can study what you want and where you will be happy. While Tisch is a fine school, there are many really good schools and so think in terms of your overall results as all is not riding on this one school. If by chance you do not get in, the disappointment will be lessened if your hopes are not tied to one school. I think one thing to remember is that you will happily be going to college next year. Keep the faith.

chrissyblu, if your daughter got into calarts, emerson, and ucla, there is a huge chance she will get into UNCSA and Tisch. At my uncsa auditions I talked to some freshmen there and one got into UNCSA and CalArts, and the other had gotten into UNCSA and Tisch, and they both probably got into lots of other places, too. It seems that (unfortunately for ppl like me who have gotten rejected from schools) these schools accept a lot of the same students.

If she’s good enough to get into Calarts, emerson, and ucla, she’s good enough to get into UNCSA and Tisch. Don’t be worried. With all these options, does she have a clue where she is going to go? That’s really exciting!

Margot! you are such a beatiful person! Thank you so much for these kinds words. There is a lot of tension in our house because my D has become resigned that CMU isn’t happening. That’s hard for her, despite the incredible odds she knew she faced. During her audition, Barbara said to her “You are very talented. You will do well in your auditions” and made several other very positive comments, and then shuttled her to the other adjudicator for more evalution and positive comments. She did 5 monologues and sang for each, so she was really hopeful she had a chance. She is having trouble with this disappointment. I have been working hard on helping her to recognize the “bird in the hand” that she has: UCLA, CalArts, Emerson, CCM…All great schools. I believe everything happens for a reason. She will be okay, but this disappointment makes waiting for NYU and NCSA more difficult for her. So, thank you for the kind words you have said.

I heard you didn’t get the good news from CalArts… I am so sorry. I hope that you find just that perfect school for you. One month from now, all this will seem like some bad dream.

Thanks SOozievt i really appreciate that! Its hard to wait but its great to have this board to get info and encouragement from! Thanks!

I’m curious about something. If they don’t notify students about their studio assignments at the same time that they send acceptance packets, then how can they determine the tuition costs? Isn’t the cost different for different studios? For instance, doesn’t the CAP21 curriculum include private voice lessons, etc that other studios might not have?

No, the cost is NOT different based on which studio you are in. The cost to attend Tisch is the same for all.

The voice lessons at CAP are a two credit elective (though CAP requires its students to sign up for that elective). Those in other studios could opt to take a two credit elective of their own choosing (including voice). The credit hours are the same from studio to studio. The tuition for Tischies is the same across the board.

I really hope that it’s true that you can still get accepted to Tisch even if you didn’t get a “Saturday in the Square” invite. Today I got rejected from both Syracuse and Emerson. Now the only two I have left are Tisch and BoCo. Congratulations to everyone who got in, however, and cherish those BFA programs that you did get into, even if it’s not Tisch, because some people don’t have any. My only BFA is Ithaca, and that’s for Acting, not MT like I wanted. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and ChrissyBlu, I feel your daughters pain. Some of my friends got invites last week too, I know how hard this is. It can really destroy your self-confidence.
