Acceptance Letters

MusicEtc…my D has a friend from our region who auditioned at colleges for MT and the one he got into was Ithaca, but for Acting. He is a senior there now and has loved it and done quite a bit of singing, dancing, and being in musicals. Another friend who wanted MT only got into Syracuse for Acting. Certain schools, like these two (and Tisch is another example)…even if you are in acting, there are opportunities to still be in musicals and do some voice and dance.

Best wishes for more options. Thankfully you have an option so far. It could be way worse. This will all be past you very soon and you will be immersed in college next year and all will be A-OK.

Soozievt, thanks so much for the encouragement/advice. It’s good to hear that I’ll have MT opportunities at Ithaca. I’m having a hard time deciding between that and American’s BA in MT. I don’t think American’s program is as well known or as well established as Ithaca’s is but it is a “musical theater” degree. I’m hoping I won’t even have to make a decision because I’ll get into NYU or BoCo but I have to stay realistic. Thanks again, and if anyone has anything to add about which seems like a better option for a strongly MT oriented person, let me know!

Soozievt or others - do you have any sense of the likelihood that a waitlist for a BFA in Acting will pan out? Currently my D has two -University of Michigan and Emerson. But I have no idea what to expect in terms of the possibility of either turning into acceptances. Any advice?

MusicEtc-- I’m in pretty much the exact same position you are. I’ve been accepted to Ithaca (BFA Acting), Muhlenberg (BA Theatre), and a bunch of others academically, but have been rejected from Pace (accepted academically), UArts, Temple (accepted academically, rejected for musical theatre minor) and then Syracuse, Marymount (accepted academically) and Emerson ALL IN ONE DAY. hahhahaa it was actually kind of funny…and the only 3 I have left to hear from are CMU (not gonna happen haha), BoCo (probs not gonna happen either), and NYU (reallyyyyyyy hoping as it’s my #1 and I did the summer program, which has seemed to help, at least this year). But don’t give up hope!!! There are so many crazy, random factors that go into these decisions (ie. I spoke with an admissions rep for musical theatre from Penn State and he said they find out the shows they’re doing 4 years ahead of time and admit largely based on casting-- I didn’t even ask, this was just the first thing he mentioned when I asked what they look for in an applicant…) that I would say most of the time it has nothing to do with how talented you are and would put very little weight on getting a no from any of these crazy, competitive schools. I read that Harvard’s acceptance rate is 9% and many of the schools talked about on this board accept a significantly lower percentage! And really, acting truly is the most important aspect of theatre and you can always pick up dance classes and voice lessons so don’t think you’re missing out and will never act in musicals again if you don’t major in musical theatre. So don’t worry, everything will be good =] ps sorry for running my mouth =P

Thank you so much Epoknee for all that you’ve said, I don’t mind you running your mouth at all haha. It’s nice to know that some other people are in my position. Reading these threads can be really helpful, but it always seems like everyone here hardly ever gets rejected. I’m amazed when I hear people upset when they’ve already been accepted for three different BFA MT programs. I am definitely leaning more towards Ithaca’s BFA Acting because their program is so good and they have so many successful theater alumni. I’m feeling much better than I did two hours ago, and keep your head up. I wish you luck for all of your other schools and if not, hopefully I’ll see you at Ithaca! Thanks for making me feel a little less alone… PS: So I guess you didn’t get an invite to NYU’s accepted students day? I’m really praying that we still have a chance! haha

Just to let you guys know i spoke to tisch admissions today and the woman i spoke to said they are STILL sending out INvitations this week for the event april 4, she said this is the last week to receive the invitation and you should have one by friday if you are invited… so you could still possibly receive and invitation! I hope i do!.. and it does seem like everyone on here gets accepted i hope we follow that same pattern:) best of luck

Yay! Krisjan91 you’ve made my day a little brighter! Thanks, I was too nervous to call and have them tell me that the invitations were out and if I didn’t get one I wasn’t accepted. My fingers are crossed for everyone waiting!

haha no problem! i wish i could say i was brave and called but my mom did for me. haha. Its like i want to know if i got in but if i didn’t i don’t want to know… but yes keep checking the mailbox. i know i will be! { i was also told before if they get behind they may email invites} Good luck!

MusicEtc and Krisjan - keep in mind that there are many people reading here who do not necessarily post, and there are others who post, but don’t necessarily share everything. I’m betting there are plenty more people out here who have rejections but choose not to share them. And, if you look at the audition population as a whole, there are MANY people who get rejections - far more than get acceptances. That is why so many posters who have already completed the process remind people continually that they need a non-audition school which is an academic safety as insurance.

yes just wishful thinking;)

Thanks, Krisjan! That’s good to hear.

MusThCc, you make a good point. I was one of those people who read the forums for a while but never posted anything. I know that I haven’t been posting on the Forums where I’ve been rejected, so I guess that does make sense. I’m crossing my fingers for you KrisJan and if you get any news let me know!

KrisJan - In your phone call did they indicate whether invitations were

  • sent to all they accepted
  • or sent to only a percentage (as they have done in the past years)
Also if just a percentage, did they indicate what the percentage was ?? THANKS

No problem and thanks so much i’ll definatly post if i get in.haha!

I’ve talked to a few different people in admissions who assured me that just because you don’t get an invite does NOT mean you aren’t accepted. They said they can only invite so many, I was told it was completely random. But if you didn’t get one YOU still can be accepted! Praying you guys get an invite this week!:)

My D also called admissions today. They confirmed that not everyone is invited and that you should hear on or around April 1.

yeah they are still telling me there were more invites that were either sent yesterday or will be emailed. so maybe still an invite:)

Ah, lets hope so! Kris, you seriously brought up my hopes.

glad to hear it JimmyByronDean! Its hard waiting like this… everyday i keep thinking something will be in the mail. hopefully tomorrow we’ll both get something or atleast by friday! best of luck

This thread has helped me so much!! I have been stressing all week to hear back from NYU. Good luck to everyone!

Yeah Chrissy, I’m with you that everything that happens does so for a reason. Your daughter must be a very talented, dedicated individual to get accepted to these schools and will succeed wherever she decides to go. I think in this hard time we just need to press on and keep encouraging one another.

Im waiting on Tisch as well you guys. It will be over soon.
