My son was just accepted to UMich SMTD for vocal performance (bass-baritone). We just got an email (7:30 pm ET, 2/19) telling us there was a status update on his applicant portal. (He auditioned at UMich 1/17.) We still have four auditions in front of us (one regional for a UK conservatory), and are awaiting admissions decisions from three others. But we have one acceptance! Woohoo!!!

@ViolinInOurHouse I think the schools with later (and more audition days) auditions are generally saying end of March for notifications. I don’t see any of the schools that my son auditioned here on the list of acceptances yet … hang in there and keep busy! I think the waiting is the worst part!
Waiting is definitely the worst! Last year, we got our final notifications on March 25. You then have the month of April to review offers, visit the campus, and get lessons if needed before “commitment day” on May 1.
Isn’t it crazy? The kids who apply to academic schools, may know as early as December. Many by January or early February. The conservatory route is definitely a marathon: Learn rep. Make prescreen videos. Upload them and write essays. Wait to hear if you get past prescreens. Wait for audition. Wait after audition. Wait for financial packages. Definitely character building. We have heard from one school. And are waiting to hear from others. And still have a few more auditions to go. It is really fun to see those of you who already have a lot of acceptances!
