@tableforsix - D received her 2nd offer of admission!
Denver/Lamont (2/24 - email to check portal)
Congrats, @HiyaHoyas !!!
Just got my first voice acceptance! BM Classical Voice Performance Soprano
SUNY Purchase 1/24
Only a week after my audition! Hopefully the first of many.
Congrats, @Elegie17!!! Was this the one where you weren’t happy with the audition? What great news!
great!!!
@MomOfSingers It was! I was shocked when I got the email!! I had Eastman this Friday so with any luck I’ll hear back from them by mid-March. I have my school musical this week and then Mannes and Jacobs next week…but I’m nearing the finish line!!
@Elegie17 - Congrats!!! I knew that you would get an acceptance! You can’t pass that many pre-screens and not get a few acceptances. Remember: where you get acceptances, is where you will grow the most! Just trust the process.
@Elegie17 woooo you! Judging from precious years you will hear from Eastman on or around March 20-23.
@Elegie17 congrats. We are heading to Eastman this weekend.
My daughter’s first acceptance SUNY Purchase Classical Voice Soprano came in (email I beleive) yesterday 2/24 one week after audition. Also she got general acceptance to Binghamton University I am not sure when as they had wrong email and she missed audition. After call last week they sent her acceptance letter and rescheduled audition which was yesterday.
Congrats @Elegie17 ! That must be a relief after how you felt leaving the audition!
@Elegie17 Congrats on SUNY Purchase - obviously they saw what they needed in the audition to come to the conclusion you had what it takes even though you don’t think it was your best audition.
@GalaOvsi and @Elegie17 if you want more information about what freshmen year is like at SUNY Purchase just message me and I can give you what my D has told me so far and what she is expecting next year.
@Elegie17 -Congrats!
Looking good for team CC! I’m only adding complete acceptances for those schools that require academic and music admit separately. Let me know when you’ve received the good news from both sides and I’ll be pleased to add it.
Bold print for final choice.

Thanks all for the encouragement! Our S did receive notification from UC Santa Barbara he was admitted to the Music School but needed to wait to hear from the school to see if he got in. Also, he did hear from CU Boulder from the prof that he was saved a spot in the studio and did get in to the music school but would hear back about any merit directly from the school.
Question: I see that financial aid is still open for applications. If we don’t fill that out, will the music schools still offer merit or scholarships? I’m still a little confused about the various financial benefit programs.
SUNY Purchase and U. Denver on the board! So exciting! Congrats to all, you’re killin’ it!
Hey, @ViolinInOurHouse!
If you don’t fill out FAFSA or CSS you exclude financial aid based on income and other ability-to-pay-based measures. Unless you’re in a very comfortable income bracket you should submit these. If you have more than one kid in college you should also submit these. This financial aid can be grants (don’t pay back) or loans (do pay back). These things are a pain to fill out but really everyone should just in case. If you do get financial aid, you have to resubmit the FAFSA every year to requalify.
Merit money is, strictly speaking, earned through audition/interview or other items that demonstrate level of deservedness (letters of rec, etc). Merit aid can also be academically awarded. My daughter was a National Merit Finalist and got merit aid for that. These scholarships do not get repaid and are gifts for your talent and effort. They are generally for all four years and can be linked to a minimum standard of performance while in school (GPA, for instance. My daughter has to keep at 3.5 for hers.).
I have seen schools say that scholarships are merit-based and need-informed, so maybe that’s a balance of both in order of consideration? Someone else can weigh in with more clarification.
To simplify:
financial aid: based on your ability to pay. Grants (no repay) and loans (repay). Determined through FAFSA and CSS.
merit aid: earned through talent, academic achievement, and effort. No repay.
We have an acceptance:
Denver/Lamont 2/24 - email to check portal (with Lamont music scholarship - amount TBD)
Congrats to everyone and best wishes to all who are waiting!
@ViolinInOurHouse You need to fill these forms out regardless of whether or not you believe you will qualify for need based aid. I imagine that is because if they can award money based on need, more would remain in their pure merit pot. I recall Eastman specifically making mention of this, and other places said you would not be in the competitive merit pool without filing a FAFSA even if you did not get financial aid.
Thank you @songbirdmama and @tableforsix! Super helpful!!
