Acceptance

Hello, I’m an international student willing to apply in universities in the US.
However, my SAT score is 1140/1600 and i didn’t have enough time to do another one. So, what universities would you guys recommend where I would have a high chance getting enrolled. My major is computer engineering.
Thanks :)

I think that you have a shot at some fairly decent ones  What is your breakdown? What is the score out of 2400? Even so, you could apply to Fordham, Temple, Washington and Jefferson, UMich (reach but still), Drexel, Arcadia, Northeastern and Ohio  Good luck! Chance back?

Well my score out of 2400 is 1590 but my school grades arent that good ~13/20
Thanks for helping me I really appreciate it.

Do you need financial aid?

I’ll take a FAFSA loan

FAFSA is not a loan. It is a financial aid application required to see if you qualify for Federal loans and since you are International you do no get US federal financial aid. You need to look at the schools themselves to see what aid is available for International students.

https://fafsa.ed.gov

But I’m a green card holder (permanent resident)

Then you are NOT an international applicant.

What am I then?

You’re a permanent resident or “eligible noncitizen.” Federal/state gov’s will treat you as they treat citizens regarding financial aid, as will most colleges (there are very, very few exceptions).

You’re considered on the same level as a US citizen.

Since you gave your grades on the 20-point scale, I assume you’re French? If so, you should check out the official conversion table from 20-point to letter grades and GPA to get a better idea of where you should apply.

If you do not live in the USA but hold a GC when did you last live in the USA?

Are you attending a French-patterned school?
If so, what filière are you in and what spé? What grade do you have in Maths, PC, SI or SVT - and based on your school’s usual national results, what grade can you expect on the bac for that type of Term grade? Or are you 1e?
Are your parents residents of any State? If so, which one?
What’s your American GPA if you’re attending school in the US? What classes are you taking?

Well, I live in Lebanon where we have a Lebanese system that’s the same as the french system. However, I attend an English school ( I’m English Educated). My father is a citizen and we are residents of California, but I’m just in Lebanon to finish school. Thanks!

You are not a resident of Cali unless you live there, when you produce a high school transcript from another country, proving residency is going to get complicated unless you mean your dad lives in the USA while you live in Lebanon. Your dad is a citizen, but you have a GC? How did that happen? GC holders who live overseas for more than a year need a reentry permit. You need to have these ducks in a row before even assuming you can get back in the USA easily.

Also… assuming you are eligible for US federal loans, YOU can only borrow $5,500 freshman year, $6,500 sophomore year, and $7,500 each for junior and senior year. You would need an adult cosigner with good credit or your parents to take out additional loans.

As for GC I usually come every 6 months it’s not a problem… But I didn’t understand i can’t take a full loan to cover all university expenses?

Federal loans can only be taken out for a total of $28,000 for an undergrad degree by the student themselves.

what about my parents can you please explain

Can you tell us where is your dad working? Where is his primary resident? Did he file California tax return for more than three years?
