Accepted for Spring 2009

My D was just accepted at the only school she applied to – her one & only college app ever!

We’re thrilled for her as she’s overcome daunting challenges due to significant chronic helath issues. The school options she’s had in our state have not included much in the way of a campus life (our state system is largely commuter). I’m sure she will thrive at her chosen campus.

Now, hubby & I will just have to work forever, but that was always part of the plan. <grin></grin>

Congratulations!

Thanks–she’ll be entering as a 2nd semester sophomore, so she’s saved us some $ & also gotten some basic requirements out of the way (which is all to the good & should save us a little). We all think the school will be a good fit for her & hopefully she’ll get a lot out of it. Several of her best friends & her brother will be there.

Unfortunately, she didn’t apply for (or receive) any scholarships & it’s a VERY expensive school.

Well, there’s still plenty of time to apply to more schools, and how much fun it will be to do so from the comfortable perch of already having one in the bag!!! :)

Well that’s great news. Congratulations and thank you for letting us know!

Congrats to her!

My son also only applied to one university for undergraduate school and one university for graduate school and lucky for him (not so much for me, as I didn’t want him getting in either time particularly, but that’s another story), was accepted his first try to both universities.

I have been glad not to have to deal with all the college application concerns so many parents today worry about, and it’s such a change in the times it seems to me as I don’t recall ANY of my friends’ parents being involved in our college applications (and my friends went to good schools - Harvard, Smith, Brandeis, Yale, etc.) but it seems the large majority of educated parents of today (and my friends’ parents and my parents were well-educated - mathematician, physicist, patent attorney, trial attorney, etc.) are just as involved in the child’s application as the applicant.

HImom- did your D just get accepted to USC? You mentioned she’d be attending with her brother, and I thought I remembered you from the Trojan site. If not, I apologize, and hope she’ll love her new school. How exciting for her.

If it is USC, congratulations also! Our D finished her sophomore year there and still loves it.

Whatever school it is, you sound so happy, and that’s always a great thing. Good luck to her, and enjoy the anticipation until the spring semester starts !

Hi, Hayden! Yes, she did just get into USC. Last night she asked very quietly if we could really afford for her to go & we said, “Of course, we’ll make things work out.” She’s overjoyed!
Yes, S has finished his 1st 2 years there, where he’s been very happy. That was the only school she applied to & yes, she just received her acceptance on Monday. They want her commitment by Friday, 8/1!
I’m sure it will be a great fit & nice for them to be attending the same school for a while.

HImom:

Congratulations!!! My daughter will be entering as a freshman in spring. When I read the thread yesterday I sort of thought SC, but wasn’t sure.

BTW, we just returned from our annual trip to Maui…what a paradise you live in! (I have been to all the islands except Molokai, Lanai, and of course Niihau)

Himom- congratulations. I am glad things have worked out for her.

Fight on!!

Big congrats, HImom. What a great accomplishment for your D. You certainly are a completely Trojan family now. My S will be a freshman at SC this year so it’s great to read that your S is happy there.

We were all pretty surprised that they accepted D, since she had a very “rocky” 2nd semester, with “mono” necessitating a withdrawal, one bad grade & one incomplete, but I guess they are confident she will be an asset and buckle down this semester to do the work we all know she’s capable of. I am very pleased at how well USC has worked out for S–his health has even improved there. He is now talking about grad school…oh, oh!
