Hey everyone, how are we all doing? Anyway, I just thought I’d ask this question so because it’s interesting to me. Have any of you people out there achieved any musical theatre related goals that you have set for yourself in the past. I mean, to many people, getting into a musical theatre school is a main goal. And it’s certainly something to be proud of if you have. But have any of you ever seen anyone else perform and think to yourself “Wow, I wish I could do that”. For example, I recently attended a musical theatre awards ceremony. And I was watching some guy sing a song from Chicago, and he could really belt it out in the upper register. After hearing this guy perform, I am driven to be able to belt out really high notes like he could (Although I really do love my voice at the current moment, but I know it can and will improve). Have any of you ever set goals like this for yourself and achieved them? It might add a little light and hope for the goal I mentioned above and all of my other theatre goals. Thanks

Hi, I’m just a parent. I have a kid in musical theater who is now 22 years old. At the start of each year, she writes out a list of very specific goals for the year that she wants to achieve, many of these are artistic in nature. I have seen these lists she makes. At the end of the year, she assesses her list to see if she reached each of her desired goals she set out to achieve that year. I have also sometimes seen her then break some goals into monthly aims. It is fascinating for me to watch and I’m rather in awe (wish I had done that myself, though I am not in MT!) as she really has accomplished many of the things she sets out to do. So, these are things she consciously works on to achieve and does not leave to chance. It’s a good thing to do to set out some short and long terms goals related to your field of interest (MT) and you could include other areas of life if you want, and then come up with some concrete plans of how to attain these goals. It seems to work for my kid.
