I see that there is a thread for MT, but not acting for the class of 2028. I’d love to hear more about acceptances and where you plan to go and why. So far, my daughter has been accepted to Baldwin Wallace, Shenandoah, University of Utah, and waitlisted at Cincinnati Conservatory, as well as several BA programs. Does anyone have any information on these BFA acting programs as well Roosevelt and Webster? One concern that I have is whether the training that acting students will receive is as good as the MT training and whether they will be allowed to try out for musicals. Also, do they have voice lessons for acting students?
C24’s still waiting on most of their BFA decisions, but they’ve been accepted to a few BA programs. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about the schools you’ve listed.
I attended University of Utah many, many years ago and it was an excellent experience. Top notch professors and stellar classmates. Many of us were signed to film commercials while still students. I had the chance to study with Robert Redford, drama with Robert Hyde Wilson (who was phenomenal and a life-long champion for me), and Vern Adix (a kind and gentle man with a creative and generous spirit whose children’s theater courses and workshops were out of this world). Salt Lake City was a very clean and safe place to live. I rented a beautiful old house with a group of friends on East South Temple and it was an easy walk to campus. One of my friends had a car, and in the evenings we’d pile ourselves and our skis into the car and head up the mountain to Solitude or Alta for some night skiing. Gliding down the mountain in a line with our torches was simply amazing. During the warmer months, there were beautiful parks in which to play or study. There were also lots of quaint shops in the campus vicinity (cafes, bookshops, eclectic stores) as well as larger shops and department stores downtown. The cost of living (at least at that time) was lower than that of home town (Bucks County, PA). I’m not LDS, but I always enjoyed listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearse on Wednesday evenings. Academically, socially, environmentally, and financially, it was a wonderful place for me. If DD matriculates at the U, I hope she also finds it to be a fantastic choice!
Oops! I forgot to mention that, yes, we were able to audition for any production (whether musical, drama, comedy, Shakespeare, children’s, etc.). Voice lessons (in addition to our required voice and articulation classes) were available for acting students. We also had a stage combat requirement (I had such fun with a fencing class).
Wow, such nice comments about Utah. We’re definitely going to have to visit.
My daughter has been accepted so far at University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Still waiting on every other place. We visited Roosevelt and I thought it was a good program- well connected to Chicago theater so lots of opportunities there. We visited DePaul on the same day, the theater school building was more modern/impressive than Roosevelt’s. I do agree that in some schools we visited, the focus was more on MT
Congrats on the acceptance to University of the Arts. It’s so hard to wait, isn’t it?
Kudos to DD on her acceptance to UofA!
It is so nice to know that you have an acceptance to a fine program as you await news elsewhere!
Daughter originally had a mix of acting and MT programs but the way things have shaked out it’s looking like it will probably be Acting. And by now she’s also realized that’s likely her preference too - so I guess it’s mutual lol
She’s accepted at Adelphi and Northern Illinois University. Waitlisted for Rutgers. Waiting on decisions from Carnegie & Purchase. Still auditioning for Evansville, LIU Post and Fredonia in the upcoming week and a half. The last two listed here are MT auditions (old habits die hard) but open to either program.
We’re looking at a serious road trip over her upcoming spring break - across state to Fredonia campus audition and then on to the Midwest to visit NIU and possibly Evansville in between!
Congratulations on DD’s acceptances, and best wishes with the remaining schools and auditions. Hope the spring break road trip is a good one; safe travels.
Thank you and thanks for sharing your experience at University of Utah. Sounds like a very special place!
I see CM is releasing today on the calendar- hopefully that applies to BFA students too!
My daughter heard from Cal Arts and Point Park on Wednesday- she was accepted! Still waiting on Boston U, Syracuse, and UMinn
Congratulations to DD and your entire family on her acceptances.
Good luck with the remaining schools.
My daughter is still waiting to here from CalArts…hoping that means there is still a chance
Fingers are crossed!
Received my acceptance to CalArts BFA in Acting just now!
We are considering a serious road trip over our spring break as well. My daughter was very fortunate and got into so many that our heads are spinning. We are suprised and we have no idea what to do. We’re considering a road trip to Penn State (Waitlisted), Point Park, Shenandoah, Baldwin Wallace, Cincinnati Conservatory (WL) and Ball. There’s no way we can do all of these though. We have already been to most of the other schools such as Roosevelt and Cal Arts, Emerson, UC Irvine. etc. Which ones would you visit? We want to choose 3.
BTW…does anyone have feedback on Cal Arts BFA in Acting? My DD loves that one, but it’s the most expensive and it seems like they accept a ton of freshman so I’m wondering how much attention they will actually get. Also, I didn’t recognize any of their productions. I mean it’s nice that they are all created by students, but I wonder if they ever do any mainstream productions.
Congrats on a lot of good options! Before I venture any comments (and really I dunno even how I’d choose 3), are these schools you listed all for Acting or some MT?
I don’t believe DD will have a problem with class sizes or attention from faculty. I also wouldn’t say the school accepts “a ton” of freshman. The 22-23 freshman class for the School of Theater was 51 students (which includes Acting and Experiential Design students). Average class size at CalArts is around 7 students.

Not all their productions are student written. This current season they have pieces by Brecht (albeit its a “sung” ballet piece), Nikolai Gogol, Tang Xianzu, James Baldwin, and María Irene Fornes. These are all stellar, textually rich pieces with lots of diversity which I’m happy to see.
