This is an article I read recently in a magazine. I felt it was worth sharing.

NOTE FROM COLLEGEMOM:

I have deleted the text of this entire article. Please note the following RULE in our TERMS OF SERVICE:

“Copyrighted Material: Please do NOT post copyrighted material in our forum. Examples of copyrighted material include articles from publications or websites, book excerpts, or any other content which you have not created yourself. Fair use allows brief excerpts, e.g., a sentence or two, from copyrighted material for the purposes of review and commentary; please do not post massive excerpts from any source.”

So, I invite you to paraphrase the article, and provide a brief quote or two, and explain where someone can find this article. Then discuss it, if you would like. Also the article you posted had the author’s email and that also would not be OK.

I HAVE ALSO DELETED THE ENTIRE SECOND LENGTHY REPRINT OF THE SECOND HALF OF THAT ARTICLE, FOR REASONS EXPLAINED IN THE PRIOR POST.

IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE ARTICLE IN THE WAY I SUGGESTED, I WILL LEAVE THIS THREAD UP. IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED BUT ONLY WANTED TO POST THE ENTIRE ARTICLE, I WILL BE DELETING THIS THREAD IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Perhaps someone can tell us what publication the article appeared in, so we can take a look for ourselves. Thanks to those who run this forum for making sure that copyrights are not infringed upon.

I apoligize, I really didn’t think that would be an issue. Thank you for making that clear to me- I won’t do it again. I copied the text from a PDF, thinking it would make life easier for people who didn’t want to download the file. Again, I apoligize.

It IS from Dramatics Magazine, that I get for free from being an ITS member.

It speaks about how some situations in education and otherwise hamper what the author views as true acting, and that those institutions only spit out ‘manufactured talent’. He also described situations in schools that I feel related to a lot of other posts on the board nowadays- how high school theatre can be a blessing for some, and a curse for others. I found the arcticle very informative, and thought others would feel the same.

Thank you so much for sharing. We use to get “Dramatics” and I enjoyed reading the articles just as much as my Ss did. Now they are off to college and I no longer have the opportunity.
