ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

GPA 3.78 ACT: 32. Good everything else. Decision: Deferred. Is there a realistic chance of positive decision on RD or realistically should I be counting on somewhere else?

It really is in your hands to a large degree, @daisy227. See my link to Jeff’s blog two posts above.

@srinivs when did you apply by??

I understand fbhsmom’s point. My D is in a similar situation. Tulane was not really on her radar but after several emails encouraging her to apply, she did. Since then and after much research, D is VERY interested in Tulane but her application might not show that. She has excellent stats as well. Applied by November 15 and will still haven’t heard – I’m guessing a deferral.

We are still waiting on a decision… Did any of you attach a music supplement? Wondering if that is why we haven’t heard yet.

@daisy227 what date did you submit your application?

In the middle of October.

My daughter submitted her Tulane app including the why Tulane essay within the first few days it was available in August. We toured Tulane between soph/jr year and fell in love with it and it was in the top 2 choices for her. The possibility of receiving a merit scholarship (which a lot of schools don’t offer) made it even more appealing to us and she was eager to apply. We waited and hoped to hear an admission decision before ED deadlines. Had we received an acceptance/scholarship offer from Tulane before ED we probably would have taken it and been thrilled. We attended a potential student weekend in October and corresponded with daughter’s admissions officer about how much we love the school. She completed the additional essays for PT scholarship. We went ahead and applied ED Columbia since we hadn’t heard anything from Tulane. Fast forward to December 9th when we found out my daughter was deferred. She was devastated and heartbroken. It was such a disappointment to be rejected by one of your top choices! Thankfully we found out yesterday that she was accepted ED Columbia and will be moving to New York instead of New Orleans. I’m sharing this story only to encourage all of the students out there to keep the faith and persevere throughout this very stressful process. There are so many amazing and talented applicants on this thread. You will find a college that fits you and places you where you were meant to be. Still loving Tulane and are so happy for all who were accepted.

ACT - 33C (36E, 36R)

Major congratulations on Columbia, @vbok2014. Best of luck there for your D.

To @vbok2014 and others who themselves or their D/S’s got “DEFERRED”, I understand why it feels like a slight or an outright punch in the gut, but you were NOT rejected. Nobody has been rejected. You have been deferred ie ‘still being considered and will get your final decision later’. Period. Please don’t go sour on Tulane or any other school(s) you get ‘deferred’ at. I’m saying this to myself as well as I know we are about to receive some ‘deferred’ announcements next week. If you really want Tulane or GU or Vandy or etc and get ‘deferred’ stay positive. I’m seeing so many freshman chiming on CC telling a similar story to yours and got in via the deferred route. Stay strong and know we are all pulling for you and each other.

S just got admitted today…I’m so happy for him. Two questions…1) I didn’t see anything about any merit scholarships - does that mean he wasn’t offered any? and 2) His GPA is only a 3.6 however his school report (private well known college prep) says that all classes are to be treated as honors classes. Do you think the Adcom’s are really weighting his GPA or it’s all in context so they know his 3.6 is much higher than what the pure number is?? His ACT is a 32.

@reservationsfor3 if you found out online you have to wait until your son receives the official letter to see if he was awarded any merit scholarships.

just got deferred. does anyone have advice for what to do now to improve my chances for RD?

just got deferred as well. 35 ACT,4.67 W GPA, 4.0 UW

Accepted last night. 34 ACT 4.35/5.3 W GPA, 3.56/4 UW

I honestly don’t think the Why Tulane? essay was that important as some people say, I just wrote a generic less than 100 words in about ten minutes because I didn’t realize how good of a school Tulane was when I applied. Of course, I know better now and I’m very happy with the acceptance.
Waiting for scholarships (if any) atm.

My D got accepted 12/7. Applied on 11/15. SAT 1870 and GPA 3.88 unweighted and 4.13 weighted. Hoping for merit scholarship though looking at the stats here… she may have a slim chance:(

I just got deferred as well.
34 ACT & GPA: 96.39 W

Also anything about improving my chances? I’m guessing an email, right?
