Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

I’d rather have a deferral and wait until the end of March than have a rejection in December!

I have applied in November and still haven’t been notified. But seriously, the university has given you a date (the end of March) to find out about applications. The university DOES NOT revolve around you. Do not get frustrated when you were given clear instructions in regards to time. Chill out.

I’m trying to be realistic, and I don’t feel too hopeful for those of us who have been deferred. :frowning:

People are getting all stirred up. We get that there’s a given date but it’s unfair that other students are hearing back before us.

Unlike many stats I’ve seen, I have a 3.3 weighted gpa, 28 act but a bunch of AP Classes and honors. The reason my gpa is so low is because my Junior year I had something horrible and personal in my life happen that hindered my ability to succeed in school. My counselor spoke about this in my letter of rec and I got deferred and then sent in a 3.8 gpa because I was able to focus on school again. Do you guys think I have a decent shot at getting in? My essay is pretty unique too

@oj2018 My last comment on this subject: You did not pay for a timely decision, you simply paid for a decision. The application fee paid was not optional based on whether your decision was what you define as timely.

It’s just a very high stress process. Many of us are simply upset because we have been receiving different information from different representatives, we are watching people with the exact same stats as us get admitted in earlier waves, and just feel confused about the whole situation. It’s definently very difficult when this university is your top choice. I’m just gonna try to remain positive until we all receive a decision, hang in there everyone

Every other school my son (FYE) applied to early action had a firm acceptance date (Purdue, UC, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech). If an applicant meets the 11/1 EA deadline, OSU should be able to respond by the end of January.

For comparison, Purdue also had an 11/1 EA deadline. Purdue released acceptances 1/15, then merit aid and honor information by 1/31.

My son was actually accepted to OSU in the first wave, but didn’t receive his provost scholarship until 2/22. He still had not heard about honors. After his Purdue for Me visit on 2/25, he decided to attend Purdue and declined OSU without ever finding out if he made into honors.

The fact that they have students who know nothing answering phones in admissions and this whole messed up process, speaks volumes to me about the school. Every other school my daughter applied has people in admissions that know what they are doing and do not give various info. Every EA came out on the same day. The date was told and even updated if needed. Same with RD. They would send an email out saying the exact date and time to look at the portal. The same with FA and merit awards. Large universities just like OSU. To hear in January from one student that they couldn’t get thru all the apps and will defer many but decide before RD, is unacceptable. Only to hear a few days later, that was all untrue. All deferrals will come at X date. Then oh, it will be after RD. Well there are still people in RD waiting. How can other colleges do this right and they cannot? Why so many different answers?

And the reason my DD applied to OSU was for the Morrill scholarship. She is passionate about diversity, does a ton of volunteer work and was the founder of Diversity day at her high school. She spent hours working on that application and essays in October and was really proud of it. And we now know not a soul has or will ever look at it, as she has been in deferral for months and the application was never opened. So disheartening. It isn’t like she was borderline for a deferral either. Rigorous course load currently taking Calc 3 and multiple other AP’s. Her ACT was 33. Not super high, but there are kids getting admitted in November with ACT’s in the mid 20’s. It makes no sense. Purdue is supposed to be so much harder and she was not only accepted EA, but offered honors college.

So she is upset no one read her Morrill app, but is fine with not going there. She has moved on. It wasn’t a top pick, but that doesn’t make this system less frustrating, especially for kids who applied in Aug and it is their top pick, and are STILL waiting. My younger kids will never apply to a college as disheveled as this one. Their admission office needs a massive overhaul.

to me Ohio State is the only option so I’m staying hopeful!

@stebs28 I’m trying to remain hopeful as well, Ohio State is by far my top choice and I’m hoping this long wait pays off

^^ i relate !!

yes, I’ll be crushed if I’m waitlisted :frowning: but hopefully, I won’t be!

.Same @wannababuckeye

It is most likely that the decisions will drop today as the Thursday before April 1st is a big college admissions date. Good luck everyone!

Should students be checking their email/ application status page to find out if they’re accepted? Or would this information only come from the mail for deferred students?

@Bucks72 Check the application status page

Based on previous releases, I would expect it to be Friday after 5:30.

@Bucks72 Check both your app status page and your email

I would periodically check your email/app status over the next couple days, over the past week it seems like some people were getting in on random days
