congrats!! when did you hear?
@JTG425 Congratulations! Did you recieve your decision today?
@JTG425 Did you hear today?
Just a thought for everyone saying that Admissions doesn’t communicate or email back: The people manning the phones and email generally do NOT know the answers to your questions. They have the same info everyone else does - that the decisions will be out by 3/31. I get that it’s disheartening to wait, especially if this is your dream school, but do you all think that calling and emailing is going to change anything? By Sunday, everyone should know something - even if it’s that they’re waitlisted. Terrible thought, especially when you’ve waited so long, but as of right now, they have adhered to the deadline they promised before (even if your decision was "deferred).
I can’t imagine being a student working in the admissions office right now fielding all of these phone calls. I can only imagine they are tired of getting the same question asked all day every day. You’re eager, but calling and emailing isn’t going to make this go faster.
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU. I hope, by Sunday, you get the answers you’re all wanting and waiting for. GO BUCKS!
@oj2018 I understand that you are upset that you were deferred and still have not been given an acceptance or rejection but a deferral is an early decision if you received it by 1/31/2019. It means that they did not feel that they could accept you without measuring your qualifications against the main applicant pool. I don’t understand why you think that you paid for an early decision. I was under the impression that the application fee was paid by anyone who applied to Ohio State for admission not just the applicants that applied by November1.
@JTG425 when did you hear, also was it through email or the portal?
@OhioMother I paid money to have a decision made earlier. Early Action= Receive an admissions decision before Regular Decision applicants. Deferred is a decision you’re right but it’s not a definite decision and it’s honestly annoying that I paid to hear back earlier when RD applicants heard back before I did. Parents don’t seem to understand the way these students feel deep down about how upsetting the college admissions process can become. Especially now, I know for a fact the college admissions process was not this frustrating and upsetting many years ago.
People have every right to be upset. The problem is that applicants are all hearing back at different times. It really is not fair to release decisions every week but not to everyone. EVERYONE made the deadline and PAID their applicant fee so should ALL be treated equally. Some applicants have been checking the portal every week since December. That’s not right.
It’s also irritating because I know some regular decision applicants who got a decision in mid-January (they received a decision before we were even deferred). I was always under the impression that regular decision applicants would be reviewed after all early action students
@littledrose @GoBuckeyes11 @ca1171 @jls0000 I the email back last night at around 11:15 pm
exactly right @ca1171 @oj2018 @collegedadto3
Thanks! Congrats! @JTG425
@JTG425 thank you!
The people that don’t understand why we are all upset are the parents/students that didn’t have to wait long for a decision. So annoying!
Not to pile on here, but this is precisely the reason why kids apply early. So that they will be measured against the ** early ** applicant pool…not against the main applicant pool. This is why they did all the work to insure that their LORs, transcripts, essays, fees, and application were submitted…early.
@oj2018 They are also employees of the university.
You guys should all have some sort of decision by the end of the weekend. My D received her email for RD on a Sunday. We didn’t expect it on a weekend but there it was. If by Sunday you’re still deferred or waitlisted my advice would be to move on. It may be very discouraging to hear that but these schools can take months to give final decisions and I would hate to see any of you give up another prime opportunity just because you’re still waiting. If it’s not what you want to see Sunday, pay a housing deposit for another school and have a secure back up plan. Even if osu gets back to you, the financial aid could ruin your dream.
@oj2018 I am not on staff at the University nor am I a fan of the admissions process. I would prefer that if one applies early decision that all decisions would be released at the same time. That release date would have to be January 31st for the sheer number of applications that the University has to go through. I believe they don’t do it this way because they want to send the information on for Honors, Scholars and scholarship consideration. I think they could send that information on just not inform anyone of their decisions until the early release date. That system still would not address the situation that I addressed. No one paid for an early decision. There was not a box to waive the application fee if you were wanting to be regular decision instead. Everyone paid the same application fee regardless. What you may have done is rushed to get your application in on time and feel cheated because you still have not heard but you shouldn’t feel cheated because you paid for an early decision. Regular decision students also paid the application fee. @STEM2017 Also if all students that applied EA were given a decision on January 31st and judged solely against the early applicant pool I would have to assume that those students that were deferred to be judged against the regular decision applicants would have simply been rejected. The early application pool generally has the higher caliber applicants since they are applying early in order to be considered for scholarships and honors. I know that it is hard to wait and I understand that it is frustrating but aren’t you glad that you still have a chance to get into the University rather than already knowing you were rejected in January?
@OhioMother You don’t seem to understand that I am not complaining about paying. Money is not a problem for me. I’m complaining because I paid the University to give me a timely decision, emphasis on TIMELY DECISION. Please stop arguing, your opinions won’t change the way the majority of deferred applicants feel. Thanks.
