has anybody that was initially deferred heard back yet? wondering if they send them out randomly during the week or in waves on fridays
Technically not deferred, she was just put in the regular decision pool because the transcript wasn’t received until mid-December. Her counselor did call on her behalf since it was a mix-up that they didn’t send the transcript properly. So that might have helped encourage them to look at her application.
@123xxyyzz My son was deferred on Jan 31 and we have not heard anything yet. I, too, was wondering about the manner of notification. Although earlier posts indicate deferred students would be notified via snail mail, it seems last year notifications came via portal/email. Also, the email we received regarding deferred status suggested checking email regularly. It also seems some are being notified throughout the week as opposed to only on the designated Friday wave. If any currently deferred out there receive a decision, please share! Good luck everyone!
My daughter was also deferred on Jan 31. This is what I was told by admissions, “The admissions office will now turn their attention to the students who applied by the regular decision deadline. They will have the mid-March review to make all final decisions, and will re-consider the students who have been deferred based on the overall applicant pool and the available spaces in the class. Final decisions will be sent by the end of March.” My daughter is also an Ohio State Academy student (College Credit Plus) completing her senior year full-time at OSU. She did very well Fall semester - we are completely dumbfounded by the deferred status!
Has anyone received National Buckeye/Trustee Scholarship?
I’m kinda confused on when deferred students can expect to hear an answer. I have been getting varying information from the admissions office. One representative told me that deferred students can hear anytime between February and mid-march, and another one told me that we hear in March after all the regular decision applicants.
I called this morning. They said financial aid packages will come out mid-late March.
@KCat01 - We are not waiting for Financial Aid package as that is for non-Merit aid. There are a lot of people that have already received merit scholarships.
@iamamom3 We are waiting on the same, any word on when they come?
@iamamom3 @suburbiatexas they haven’t sent out buckeye/trustees yet. I was told they will be sent by mid march
@heading2college7 - wow that’s much later than previous years. I thought the mid march date was for financial aid not merit scholarships.
I agree with this. My son was deferred and we’re not expecting an answer until after RD decisions are released. And by that time he will probably already have decided on Penn State (or someplace else that has shown the love).
@ca1171 Deferred student have already been reviewed once. The decision promised by the end of January was deferred. Deferred students are not looked at again until the regular decision students admissions process is done. They then will be looked at again on a space available basis. This is how it works, I only know because I was deferred.
@artsyg were you deferred from Ohio State in a previous year, and if so were you eventually admitted?
So do you have a better chance of being admitted through RD than being deferred since deferred students are admitted on a space availble basis
?
@STEM2017 My son is most likely PSU UP bound, as well. Of course, it’s always nice to have all the cards on the table. I did go back and take a look at some of the deferred students from last year. Although many did not receive an answer until late March, several did in Feb/ early March. So, I think it’s just a matter of how things are playing out within majors, etc. We’re planning to keep an eye on email and portal just in case.
@Shae1611 Best of luck!
@ca1171 and @g0bucks. I came in with the class of 2021 and was deferred in January and waitlisted in late March, then eventually admitted. I would say that RD is what they are working on to admit right now, so I guess you should say they have a better chance of getting admitted at this point since deferred are not being looked at for review again until they are done with the RD process. Also, some years they are able to admit deferred or waitlisted students based on space available like my year, and the year after mine, and others like the year before mine class of 2020 where there are no waitlisted folks admitted. It will depend on what they have set as the class size for 2023 and how many turn down their offers of admittance. Hope this helps, and good luck to you guys. I know exactly how you feel!
Has a anybody from derby last decision been admitted?
