Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

I don’t know how true this is but this is what the admissions office told my dad over the phone today- They are reviewing the RD and deffered applicants at the same time since they threw them all into one big pile and the latest everyone will hear back is mid March but you could hear back sooner.

Waiting to look at deferred students after all RD students are admitted sounds more like a waitlisted status. It was my understanding that we are put into the RD pool and will hear anytime between now and the end of March. My son is going to Penn State accepted students day on Monday 1/25–anyone else from this thread going or have been already??

Does anyone know if decision emails are sent out on any kind of schedule? Or are they just whenever they get to your application?

@kesnyder5 My son and I went to the PSU event. It was well worth it. The school easily jumped to his favorite after the event. Take a look at their sports schedule and try to catch an event while you’re there. Son and I caught a hockey game - it was fantastic. DM me if you have any specific questions. There’s also a thread on the topic.

Anyone have any insight on Ohio State engineering vs. Clemson engineering?

@mommamo1
I can’t really compare the two but my daughter is a Clemson engineer (BS & MS in Civil) and LOVED it. She did the coop program which I’m not sure they advertise much but it was great! She worked full time for 3 semesters – Spring, Summer, Fall – sprinkled in her program. This added a year but no tuition during the coop and she made $30K doing it. She went right into graduate school with a research fellowship (free tuition) and got multiple job offers. She also participated in the Solar Decathlon team and many other extra programs. Great weather, great sports, great school. We love OSU too and my 2nd daughter went there but in A&S, so I don’t know much about the engineering school. Hope this helps.

tOSU engineering vs Clemson engineering. This website can help you compare the numbers (which are not very dissimilar). The ASEE website is extremely helpful when comparing enrollment data at different engineering schools - it is NOT a ranking site.

Can people post questions that are not about admissions to a new post. Thank you.

I called today and asked when the next wave of merit offers were going out (specifically National Buckeye/Trustee Scholarships) and was told next batch was being mailed either today or Monday. Good luck to all of us still waiting!!

@STEM2017 thanks so much!! I was wondering if you and your son Would be at Penn State while we were there?..we seem to be following the same pattern :slightly_frowning_face: Thank you for your early advice in the process for my son to send a letter of continued interest to the regional rep- they have corresponded a few times and I hope she will pull for my son. This process has been forever for us!! Any thoughts on when we might hear??? Hang in there I hope we both have good news sooner than later!!

I got accepted today.

were you initially deferred? or was this your first admission decisions?

It’s my first admission decision.

D19 got accepted today. No email notification though. Only portal was updated. First choice of major.

I was accepted today for International Studies. I didn’t get an email that said I had an application update. I just checked my portal by chance.

Same but accepted for Secondary Education.
