There are probably very few unique stories that they have not heard. The challenge is to make it interesting and tell something about yourself at the same time.

If you are a Senior, yes.

At a minimum: Two reach schools, two good match schools, and two safety schools.

If you really want to go to your State’s school, and you are likely to get in, then you can cut back. Many times they have rolling admissions, and you may find out in a week, and not have to apply to any others.

You can also feel free to apply to a few more reach and match schools.

Yes. If you have good scores, some schools send fee waivers to encourage you to apply and check out their school. My D received one from a school, and applied because it was easy (common app, and no additional essay). It was not that far away, so she went to Admitted Student’s Day, and ended up picking that school.

thanks. that was really helpful!
